I was just wondering if anyone knew what the situation is regarding hire bikes from insurance companies.

heres my situation at the moment,

1) Accident was not my fault as the gim was drunk and jumped a red light, then got arrested. but they are still bickering and stalling (or in BLD's words, "investigating or disputing the claim").

2) Im insured tpft.

3) My bikes been written off, its my only form of transport and still no money back for it, ive now been bikeless for 5 months.

4) I wrote back to dispute the value (not offer as its pending liabilty Rolling Eyes) and still not heard back yet.

4) Ive sustained a nasty broken arm so couldnt take a hire vehicle out BLD was offering at the time as i couldnt and still cant ride.

5) Because of this "failure to settle outstanding losses with the third party" BLD have passed all invoices for the storage and stuff to my solicitor to get back.

Now im wondering as (fingers crossed) my arm will be healed soon and within the next month or two i should be able to ride again. But if they still havent sorted out payment for my bike, should i still be able to get a hire bike out of my insurers and BLD and get them to bill the third party directly? I wont be able to afford a hire bike out of my own pocket so i was thinking this would be a more sensible option. Also if they start getting invoices for £100 per day hire bikes I think they might actually pull their fingers from firmly inside their butt crack and actually sort payment for my bike out. At the moment i've yet to send them all my travel expenses but its just bus and train tickets i need to get into work which is costing me a fortune anyway.

Im currently trying to repair my writeoff but it looks like i might actually get it finished and back on the road before anything is settled which is just not on. So i thought rather than rush to finish it i might just run up a big bill for the third party because they are being nobs about this all.

Hi, if they give you an offer, then you'll struggle to get any hire from them. Biggest thing I'd say, is be careful with hire, as it'll hike up the cost of the insurance claim, which goes against you in the long (long) run.

When my Daytona 600 got run over, I was offered a GSXR1000 as a replacement bike, at £100 a day bill.

The insurance company I worked for stopped hire from the first offer. Otherwise people just dispute to keep the hire.

Best off asking your solicitor.

The thing is its not actually an offer, the letter specifically states it as the value pending liability, and since the charges for all services incurred by BLD have been fobbed off to solicitors i assume that they are not accepting liability... Sad

ive kept costs down as much as i can for travel, especially when the ignorant crush of rush hour public transport put me at risk from displacing my fracture... i should really of hired a taxi to work everyday instead but couldnt afford it...

thought it might get things moving along a bit.

if you have the legal expenses theyll fight for the cost of a hire bike of a similar size eg if you had an r6 theyd give like a bandit 6

the hire bike is fully comp so youll have like 350 excess

remember if you hurt yourself you can claim for taxis, wages, medical, even mental trauma - make the claim as big as possible cause theyll find a way of chipping it down, keep receipts for everything

mention a cash settlement - you keep the bike, they pay the amount you paid for it, no cat write off

also if liability is 100% them, the claim will not affect you when applying for insurance in the future, regardless of amount

(wouldnt know this if it wasnt for a 4x4 driver on his phone - SE04 WPP, let his tyres down if you see it, hell hit you and drive off)

Biggest thing is to remember to mitigate your losses, otherwise you may be left with a rather big hire bill if they dispute (again, seen in the case of hire charges being deemed 'excessive' and therefore paid the price deemed reasonable).

This is incorrect, as insurance is all about statistics, and if you've had more accidents, regardless of fault, then your insurance will go up, although subtly, as direct from my parent's underwriters.
