Apparently I have to learn GoLive CS2 Rolling Eyes

As I am already a registrant of Adobe (having registered in the past to test Pagemaker) I can download a test version of GoLive to see how I get on with it.

HOWEVER ... as the person I am possibly assisting in website adjustmentation gets her programs at a "discounted rate" which may require some sort of crack ... I'm wondering whether downloading the official trial version will leave little tracking greeblies in my computer so that when the unofficial full version gets installed, it can tell that its not quite the real thing.

If you catch my drift.

well, there's one way to find out Very Happy
About all it can do is leave an entry in the registry. Assuming you're not planning on running any updates or installing any more software between the time you install the official trial version and the full version, then you could probably get away with exporting the registry (run regedit -> save/export or something in the file menu) before you install the trial version, then restoring the old registry before you install the full version.
Better still, I'm guessing there's a way you could compare the registry to a copy made after you've installed the go-live trial so you can isolate the keys associated with it and manually remove them from the registry before installing the full version.

If fiddling with regedit sounds like too much of a nuisance, then the obvious answer would be to save the system state before installing the go-live trial, then do a system restore if the full version of go-live starts getting a bit pernickety.

Alternatively, you could always just download a cracked version and not worry about the copy protection.

Have you considered hand-stitching your css instead? It's so much more fun.

I am definitely not planning on doing anything more complicated than I have to!

Sounds scary, I am not sure I am brave enough to delve into the Registry, even if I knew how.

Obviously. But that still sounds FAR TOO SCARY for me, and I don't want to wreck my computer, I've only JUST got it running properly.

Hmmmmm, and where (how) might I do that from?

I bet it is ... if I knew what that meant Brick Wall

Thank you.

are you running xp? If so, then all the details you need for a system restore are carefully explained in easy steps here.

The idea is to make a save point before installing the demo, then if needs be, restore the system state to what it was when you come to install the full version. Did that make sense?

If your colleague is getting you a "discount" version of go-live, then I'm guessing that the copy protection will probably already be missing/bypassed. If not, then just about any version you download from an unofficial source should either be cracked or include a means of cracking it.

Details on rolling your own stylesheets can be found here.

Okay, I understood most of that, cheers Thumbs Up

I shall go and properly read how to do a system restore before I download anything. (I am thinking I really should do one anyway, given my ability to fubar almost anything more complicated than a toasted cheese sandwich).

And then I shall go and read the CSS stuff next.
I do, at least, have a BASIC (very) knowledge of html and how it works, but thats about all Laughing

Thank you honey bunchkin

Ok, I've been patient - I waited till I got the full version and have put in the "serial number".

Tomorrow will no doubt bring lots of beseiged groans from the depths of my "office", and I shall be pestering everybody if I cannot figure it out within one second of having opened it Laughing

Yay.
*happy hellkat dance*

I figured it out.
Its quite easy really!

Managed to update the news page with lots of lovely news on the girlies.

I'm going to attempt minor alterations to other pages, and then ...

... the biggie: the individual girls' pages Shocked Shocked
(muy complicato, with lots of pictures and links to other thing, eek!)

The main complaints from customers is
(1) no updates on the news page (now sorted); and
(2) no new pix of regular girls or indeed pix of new girls

So ... my major plan (once I have become a wee bit more competent) is to take more photos of the girls with my own digital camera, in the style of the ones the boss has taken, then email them to the boss for her approval, and then insert them into the girls pages.

Thumbs Up
