Last year I was looking into the prices of alarms and found a guy near Basingstoke who was willing to supply and fit a Datatool system 3 for £200 to my RR. However, now I'm looking into getting one for another bike and I've lost of the details of this guy and the cheapest I can find is about £250. Sad

Have alarms gone up in price or do you know where I can get a decent (such as a Meta or Datatool) alarm?

Thanks.

I'd avoid all alarms if you can - more trouble than they are worth, and nobody reacts to the sound of an alarm anyhow...

If the bike is parked in a garage, get a baby-monitor from Argos - £14.99 and something professional thieves hate...

I dont know if this is the sort of thing your looking for.

If you couldnt do it yourself, even if you paid a professional to do it,
It would still come out at under the 2 ton mark i would think

It's not me - it's the insurance that wants the alarm!

So it has to be fitted by someone approved to fit them (i.e. not me). To be honest I've had a Datatool and a Meta on previous bikes and they've been fine.

Is it just for the discount or are they saying you MUST have a Thatcham Approved alarm fitted?

Well it allows me to shop around more. Some will only insure me with the alarm, others will give me a 10% discount.

To be honest I'd rather have an alarm anyway - more chance of catching the little scrote pushing the bike over!

I E-mailed the company about fitting, and they say they would issue a certificate, to say it has been fitted by a qualified person.

I had an Escort turbo, a few years ago, and the insurance company insisted I had an alarm fitted. The bloke that fitted it for me gave a certificate to say he was an approved qualified fitter, and they accepted that. Wink
