I have an '04 Gilera DNA 50cc

Everything is allllll good except the electric start.

When I press the starter (with brake held in) the starter relay makes a 'clicking' noise but does not start the engine.

-The front and rear brake lights/switches work.

-The kick start works

-The battery is FULLY charged

Any ideas?

Are you /sure/ the battery is good?

Firstly I'd try a new battery, then I'd try running a thick wire from the battery + straight to the starter motor, with the ignition off.

The fact that there is a click means the relay is probably OK, so it's either the battery (likely), wire from the relay to the motor (very unlikely), or the actual starter motor (meh, maybe!).

Try the wire thing, see what happens.

take the right hand underseat panel off, and hold the starter button in so the relay clicks. jiggle the wires around the relay (i.e. push, pull, move in circles ect) if you get a ping from the engine, the wires needs stripping and re-connecting. it happened on mine Smile

That's quite helpful guys, thanks.

I reckon it could be the starter motor siezed or something and it's easily removable on that bike =]

Will try your aforementioned tactics tomorrow when it's light.

Thanks again =]

Can you hear the whine of the starter motor turning round?

Nope, nothing except the 'click' of the relay

bridge your relay block connector and see if that whips it over (use a thick wire and only do it for a short time, it gets hot)(bypassing the starter solonoid and the bar switch) this might work.
If not it could be a case of not enough amps in the battery, forget volts for now Smile

if it doesnt start when you bridge the starter you should then check the motor, it could be either siezed or the bushes could be gone.

if it is siezed just nock it with a hammer whilst sticking some volts through it, if it doesnt work its dead and there about £60 retail ish for a new one,
