I've heard murmurs about it, however it won't be this year, so don't panic.

It's quite regular that you'll hear rumours about driving tests changing. I just take them with a pinch of salt these days.

Had a look on the dsa website and there is no mention on there give them a ring and ask.

Sounds like it'd be a bit difficult to implement unless the test center staff are planning a few months off.

I know people who passed a test and have been driving for ten years and are still crap at it.
I think it is just a rumour. Not even a good one.

So instructors would need to log every lesson?
Does it count if you mum or dad teach you?
Will it make the roads any safer as most forget what they are taught as soon as the wee man says 'Passed'.

I would say taking those ghey 'New Driver' plate thingies out the system and making people remove L plates when a learner is not driving the car would be more of an aid.

Buses and Trains could have shag pile carpets and butlers and I would still use my car.

They should put a power restriction on new drivers like they do on new riders. The car must be restricted for a full year after passing the tests. Also a separate test for Motorway driving.

There essentially is anyway, tried getting any insurance on a 1.2+ car at 17 these days?

Most of the damage is done by twats in 1.1 Fiestas dripping with FRP and alloy thinking that their shoddily tyred shopping trolley will make it round that next bend at 90mph loaded with 4 mates.

It's an odd compromise, because even low powered cars can go fast enough to kill you, it's just that the lower powered cars are less likely to have the brakes or tyres or suspension necessary to get you out of trouble.

so what your trying to say is let em have big powerfull cars and let darwin take control? I can see how this would ween out all the munchkins although the nhs would be stretch3ed a bit further.
I think the restriction thing would work, make them drive a restricted Smart car for 2 years Smile thatll work
as for 1 years of lessons, how would they work that? 1 hour a week over 52 weeks? 2 hours a week over 26 weeks? 1 hour every now and again over 2 years? what utter poop. they were demanding that you should have night time lessons aswell as daytime lessons, that would meen instructors having to work after 9.30pm during the summer months. I'm sure if that were the case they would have to have test times ammended to suit. I'm sure the testers would be happy to have a 10pm test Smile
They come up with all these mad ideas and eventually come up with something that works.

Lets face it, not long ago they brought out the theory test, then hazzard perception, (still sucks in the fact you have to do bike and car, not just one, what if you plan on doing both tests within the same two years?
There was a biug uproar about the bike test having you restricted for 2 years if taking test on either a 125cc or under 21 years old. we just got on with it.
I did my DAS on a 500, had to do my cbt and theory, then I had to do my theory again and hazard for my car test. I had no choice so just forked out the cash and got on with it.

I suppose you could put an aptitude/metal test that you had to sit before the actual car test/bike test to prove that your less likely to have psychopathic tendancys in a traffic jam or if your at a higher risk of making new holes in walls.
