Hey bcf guys, I thought I'd vent a bit of anger at drunk drivers.
I really hate seeing how people still get away with such thngs, they "think" they can drive/ride over the limit (over confidence plays a big part) so they set off on their journey no matter what the condition. These people im talking about do this normally everyday, there are so many.
The old fellow im on about comes into my work place (pub) has a few ales (complains all time about the ale) and then decides to drive back, the journey itself is walking distance for any human. I never told him to stop doing what is blantantly wrong and never thought anything of it.
I have driven over the limit and can safely tell you that its the worst thing to do ever...period, although at the time/situation it was the best thing to do.
Ok now the interesting part: (With pics)
Yesterday I worked all day but I had two hours break at 5-7...Went home at 5 rested for a bit then seven o'clock came around and I decided to get on my way, As I have been doing this route for over a year now I got pretty comfortable with it. So I was nearing my work place, let off the throttle at around 60mph and started light braking for the corner which was about 150-200m away (at this point nothing was bothering me). After around 50-70m of light braking (probably at around 45mph now) I noticed a car coming towards me indicating right, Soon enough I was braking a bit harder which I do normally just incase a driver decides to turn across my path, I then thought to myself "hes not going to turn, hes seen my lights, hes heard my loud exhaust" and so on...all of a sudden he starts to turn as slowly as possible....."SH!T WHY?" I said.
Then came the tricky part, baaam!! on the brakes as hard as I can tring not to lock any of the brakes which I managed to do very well. Still under heavy braking im looking at the driver as I neared the sideways car, "I know him" I stupidly thought. Then it hit me "this is going to hurt" and then it really did hit me, Crash and bang and im going over the bonnet and flying over car maybe a couple of metres up.

https://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x17/rift_M/IMG_1982.jpg
https://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x17/rift_M/IMG_1983.jpg
I landed really well actually, I stood up and hobbled over the road to the grass, the first thing that hurt was my crouch area, just imagine theres two vehicles in the middle of the road and im walking around holding my balls for a minimum of 10mins..haha
We both moved over to a safe area and came to terms with what just happened, He didnt say much not even an apology maybe because he was in shock aswell or he was hiding something.
As soon as my head was fully with it (as much as needed) I called the police and ambulance which surprisingly arrived really fast. The ambulances attention went straight to me and police straight to the gent, I went straight to the ambulance and got the most important things checked (head, lungs and back) I then finished with the friendly and caring ambulance crew and hobbled outside only to see the gent in the police car with hand-cuffs on, I was told he is over the limit and they have to breathalise me too, fine. Obviously my reading was 0...
I got away with bruised back and bruised kidney area, legs are hurting all the way up and down and thats it, I really got away with murder in this case. thought maybe a broken bone or someting but hey!!
So F-ing Brilliant a F-ing old mo fo over the limit has just written off my baby and couldnt give a flying sh!t OR even apologise ffs. EDIT: He called 5mins ago saying soz and seeing if im ok.. Now its going to take a couple of months for my claim to go through.
Btw a few other regulars do the exact same thing...I will definatly tell them when I start work again.
Love to hear of your opinions about drinking and driving plus other claims/cases for some extra info for me to use when speaking to insurance group. ____________________ You only live once so get a bike and ride |

Poor suzi ... fuckin' drunks... ahh well, probably one more disqualified driver on the road now ...
As for your bike from those pics i'm not convinced it's a rightoff... can't see any frame damage from those pics so i reackon new front wheel/forks/fairing/light unit and you could have that back on the road... anyway if he's insured the claim shouldn't be too bad, i reakon you should try and buy it back off the insurance company... then either fix it up or sell it as a track day bike.spares... i reakon that could go back on the road for < 500 tbh (not sure off hand what forks cost but front wheel shouldn't be too expensive.)
Anyway... glad to hear you havent got any major injuries . |

You should almost certainly win the claim if he was over the limit, so that's a plus. And at least he was caught before he killed someone perhaps... though I'm sure you would rather it wasn't you who had to "catch" him . The bike might be written off if it's bad enough damage, so you could maybe get a newer one? Depending on the offer you get of course (remember, never accept the first offer they give you! Unless it's randomly more than you paid for the bike or something..). Yes, you could repair it, but I bet a new bike would feel even better . ____________________ :: Honda XR 125 L ('53) => Kawasaki GPZ 500S ('02) => Suzuki SV650S ('00) => Aprilia RSV-R ('51) :: |

Sorry to hear about your bike, but your dam lucky to escape with such minor injuries.
A drunk driver wrote off my old car when it was parked.
It was the 3rd time he'd been caught drink driving in a couple of years. I think he ended up with a few months in prison after the crash though.
I got a payout offer fairly quickly as there wasn't really much of a case for the insurance company to fight.
A little phone call to the police would be the best bet if you know people are drink driving from your pub ____________________ Yamaha FZR400RR 3tj

The bike being a write off doesn't necessarily reflect on the frame being bent, most cases it helps, but it's whether or not it's beyond economical repair in the insurance companies eyes. Glad he's off the road, and your not too hurt, the bike will be fixable, or maybe get a new(er) one. Good luck does seem pretty straight forward. ____________________ Roger wrote: Women don't get damp for clingy puppies. You might not be able to see but there are other things that have been broken off...for instance if you look carefully on certain pictures you will notice the exhaust port mount connecting to the downpipe has snapped, the exhaust itself has been bent directly at the same point as the mount beyond repair...along with the massive dent in the tank, rear foot peg snapped, levers snapped, rear panel cracked and I have to mention the crash bungs which helped. The engine and tank being the most expensive and labour..
I like what you said about buying it back of the insurance company though, it brings up a very interesting solution for me to think over.
Thanks for all your help so far guys. Also im loving the suggestion about getting the insurance company to get me a hire bike and claiming it all back, genius...absolute genius. |
Even if you don't fix it up yourself dude you might aswell buy it back (probably only a few hundred so borrow some of rents of something till compo comes if you're short for cash) sell it on ebay, from what you've listed as being wrong you could fix it up as a track bike for not much.
race fairings i think are a couple of hundred, Exhaust full system brand new you could get a full aftermarket from engine back for <400 quid, less if you buy second hand on ebay, jeez, could get a whole engine for about 300 i reakon (might take a bit of waiting though...) foot pegs 50 quid each roughly... with the exception of the engine everything in that list you should be able to do yourself with a basic socket set, pliers and allen key set, then ontop of that the forks and wheel... well i've never had to remove forks and i've never looked at the price of them but i reakon if you could wait a while they wouldn't be /THAT/ expensive on ebay...
If you don't want the hassle though deff buy it back and put it on ebay as track bike project (unless it's a cat b writeoff in which case there's no point, cat c/d would be alright ) |

Jesus, that's almost exactly the same as my crash. Idiot turns across me, mine could well have been over the limit as well (waiting for the police report to find out for sure) bike got written off, though by the looks of things stood up to it better than Suzukis and I came off considerably worse, with a shattered elbow.
Bad luck, but take solice in the fact that he's going to prison for that. |

Glad you're not hurt - I've had a very similar accident, driver was prosecuted for driving without due care & attention.
You shouldn't to pay a penny for this - the drunks insurance is going to take a hammering for this, assuming he has any.
Remember to claim for new leathers, gloves, boots and lid.
You should be able to get a hire bike (I did)
You can claim for travel expenses in the mean time (bus/taxi/whatever)
Get onto your insurance company straight away. If you're fully comp things are generally a bit easier, but keep pestering them if you're TPFT and you should get most of this. |

That's f*cking awful!
You must've been well shaken not to go over and lamp him! (I know I would've) But then I guess the fuzz would've been all over you instead.....
Well, when your claim comes through are you gonna opt for another SV or something else?
P.S. Am I right in thinking that if he was over the limit his insurance will not be held liable and he will be personally liable?
Get well soon. ____________________ Kawasaki ER6n -> Honda CBR600RR -> Honda VTR 1000 -> Moto Guzzi Norge 1200

Shit man glad your ok, cant stand people like that, driving drunk and they bloody know better, hopefully it brings ti home to him and he stops driving under the influence.
Seems likes its two SV's that are now getting cats against their name, mine just been writen of by someone not looking and causing me to go flying over some curbs, only as they didnt stop claim is on my insurance, 2 write off's in 2 years not good.
To get it pushed through quicker keep chasing and ask for numbers of garages, his insurance etc and dont let it drop.
Im hoping my renewal wont be to bad but i think i will have to be 3rd party for few years, hopefully dont drop whatever i decide to get.
Take it easy for a few days and let your muscles recover, will give you a buzz soon see how your doing ____________________ My Bike Pics |
