The council have just advised me that - due to the unprofessional mismanagement of my whole housing case from start to finish - they have disposed of the entirety of the belongings, which Anita and I put into storage when we moved into the refuge.

Brick Wall Brick Wall Brick Wall Brick Wall Brick Wall Brick Wall Brick Wall

I feel a compensation claim - and an extremely long official complaint/ombudsman hassling rant coming on!

Wankers!

Oh, I have.

One of my mates has undergone the same thing happening (by the same council) which is why I was so diligent in trying to ensure ours didn't get dumped as well.

Somewhat unsuccessfully, by all accounts Evil or Very Mad

Still ... its not as if we are sleeping in the street in the clothes we stand up in.

But its still very VERY annoying.

Plenty Rolling Eyes

Over 20 years worth of living in London type stuff.

Papers, photos, childish things of Anita's, a great deal of personally special stuff, as well as the more easily replaceable paperwork like decrees nisi and birth/marriage certificates, all my paperwork about my previous mortgage, stuff which is easy to replace, but irritating to have lost.

And all the "big furniture" (sofas, beds, whiteware, tellies, etc) was quite new ... due to the fact that before I had the stuff put into storage, I had received a decent divorce settlement, so I had bought myself nice stuff - instead of the usual skip-diving / second hand type stuff we used to live with (and are back to doing now).

And I just KNOW the council will hand us the Argos catalogue and say "Tell us how much it all was out of there", and then turn around and offer us about a fifth of the value.

So when I do manage to move out of the refuge (which I am in the middle of trying to sort out either private or Housing Association rental) ... I won't ACTUALLY have anything to move in with, as the flat in the refuge is fully furnished.

But we've acquired some stuff over the two years we have been displaced, so not all is lost ...

... just most of the rest of 20 years of our life Exclamation Exclamation

So its orange boxes and shelves-on-bricks at la casa hellkat, when I finally manage to settle back somewhere permanently.

And an intensely scathing complaint to the council is now in the pipeline.

Fukkwits.

Its too long a story to explain.

Maybe I was a tad overwrought when describing them as unprofessional, as I am sure they have (mostly) done what they are "supposed to do".

I can't really claim to be annoyed at the guy who phoned me today, as I have had no contact with him whatsoever until recently.

Except that he has been sending me letters (regarding my belongings) to the address from which I was moving - when I put it all into storage. Its not called a "homelessness department" because you are staying at the address where you have personal effects removed from, is it now?

Despite the fact that I been in regular contact with them over the whole time my claim has been open, and they have always had my most up to date address on their housing files, somehow he seems not to have been advised of my latest address all this time.

I suppose its too much to expect a local government department to act in any way that actually looks like it gives a shit about its "customers".

But I really shouldn't have had to refer any part of my case to the Head of Department, not once, but twice now.

I'm putting on my kicking-arse boots.

Has it been destroyed? If not, is there a way of tracing it?

Yep. All gone. No trace.

"Disposed of" ... on 26 February 2007.
Neutral

I think the guy dared not say "destroyed", cos he knew I was about to blow my stack.

I'm REALLY glad I didn't put the XJ900 in there with the other stuff, because we were considering that at the time, as it wasn't working.

I have acted with nothing but restraint, co-operation and politeness on all occasions (with the occasional breaking-down-in-tears-of-frustration which seems to be an obligatory emotion when dealing with officialdom)

Probably that's why all this is happening to us ... we're not throwing enough paddies, LOL.

Good luck in your fight, I have a feeling you are going to need it.

I also have a feeling that this time they may have bitten off a little more than they can chew......... Wink

Will we be seeing you at BDB this year? Sounds like a weekend off in a field/tent could be just the therapy you need?

Shouldn't think so, Jo.

I probably could do with a rally now that I've got the courage to be back on the bike again ... and in fact we went down to Madduciano's a few weeks ago, which was very pleasant.

But the Bully's a bit of an emotional rollercoaster for me these days, so not much point.
If I turn up, I turn up.
You know how it is with me, LOL

I'd prolly only go if I got roped into working, but as I'm avoiding Snob, who is still occasionally pestering me to come and help with his own work (much as I'd like to but ... like, when do I ever get time!?) ... its fairly unlikely, LOL.

I'm tempted ... but possibly I may have lost your number, when my phone was stolen earlier on in the year.

Can you PM it to me, just in case and if I make it, I'll let you know.

Gravellicious ... I've already sent several pestering emails and complaints, threatening either legal action or the housing ombudsman. Been a busy little bee this evening, LOL.

Can't see it having much effect.
They've become indifferent to their incompetence.
