Just woke up and noticed that my Kawasaki KH125 is missing.

I'm assuming its been stolen, though why someone would take that over the NS125 that was next to it i have no idea.

Anyway, I've never delt with insurance companies so i'm not sure how this all works.

I take it i have to inform the police and then the insurance company?

I recently started a new job, but haven't yet updated my insurance to reflect this (i don't commute on that bike anyway), do you think this will affect my claim?

Ring the police first, because you wil need a crime refernce number for the insurance claim. Once you have rung the police and explained someone may come and get a statement although it sounds pretty clear cut, after this ring your insurance and speak to the claims department, they will send get the details of the theft and send you out a claim form which you fill in and send back to them, Hopefully its all sorted quickly for you.

With regards to the job, it shouldnt matter as long as you havent stated your a doctor and you really work in burger king.

Sorry about the theft and hope this helps you.

apprently they will have someone round within the hour.

KH125s aren't all that common, so it will be interesting to see if i spot someone riding one around Norwich. I'll be able to chase them on the NS that left alone.

That's a bit of a bummer mate. Where was it parked and did it have any locks or anything on it?

Hi, does depend on the job, some jobs are rated higher than others, call centre workers, for example, are relatively high, compared to say, doctors.

Even so, normally, they'll ask you to pay the difference in price, does depend on how reasonable your insurance company is, some will use it to avoid paying. Smile

My actual premium should be less, since I was unemployed, and started a new job at the beginning of the month. Which when I did the quote was £20 less over the year.

The policy is with Zenith through motorcycles direct.

I had the bike insured for £600. How does the excess work, do they just deduct it from any amount I might receive?

If i actually have pay it I don't have any money right now.

First thing, check local quarries/fields and dark back allies, might be wrapped round a tree/lamp post down there. doubt one of them, would be split for parts,so what was securing it? also, the NS is a sports bike, so only really performs on the road and would be easier to be caught on where the KH can be ragged on said fields/quarries, know this from a victims experience, and know exactly what your going through. Really hope you don't find it torched with the usual 2 mile away. Good luck and hope it's not too badly damaged upon any return. Karma Thumbs Up

How much is the bike worth? Unless it's worth more than the increased premiums, and the excess then don't bother with the insurance companies.

Give information when they ask you unless it will benefit you. Don't mention employment, as in your case it makes very little difference, and it'll just be an excuse to get more money out of you.

The reason the KH was nicked is because it's an offroader. Tearing round a field on an NS wouldn't be quite so fun...

as jack said . Smile
dont mean to be cheeky . but if the bike is only worth £600,and your excess is say £250 . it aint worth the hassle with the insurance
they will only claw it back in the next year or two . as your premium
will go up
sadly we all have to have insurance . we would like to think they are on our side . but no
Neutral
sorry to here of your loss Sad

Not knocking the OP in person but.... Wink

Your bike is stolen and you have to place a post on the internet asking what to do..... Confused

Sorry but i would have thought that it was pretty clear what you need to do. Embarassed

As to the value of the bike just because you told them its worth XXX do not think that is what they will pay out.. They will come in much lower than that to start with, you then have to haggle with them to get a decent payout. They work to book prices, not what you value it. As someone else said it may pay in the long run just to report to police and not claim on the insurance.... Just remember to inform the DVLA of its new status, or you may get a fine when RFT is next due for non payment.

Sorry you have lost the bike, hopefully if you do get it back it is in a servicable condition. Smile And not been wrecked.

If you are going along the insurance line, the police will give you a CAD number to cover you until they can give you a crime number. Give this to your insurance company. Until you do the bike is still insured under your name, this will cancel that if it's involved in a crash or something whilst it's been stolen. Also the police are supposed to inform the DVLA so that again your not reponsible for any thing like tickets etc and they won't send you a reminder when the tax needs renewing. I say supposed to, they forgot with my last bike and the DVLA sent me a fine for not taxing it or delaring it SORN so it's maybe best to inform them yourself too.
The excess will be taken off anything that's paid out to you so if they decide the bike is worth £600 and you have a £200 excess, they'll give you £400.
I was also with Zenith and from what I can gather the premium won't go up but your NCB will go back to three years.
Or, you could do as I did when mine was stolen. I got another bike within the week and just transfered the policy over to that as it had eleven months left to run.

well I didi contact the insurance in the end.

I was selling that bike anyway so i'm not too fussed. My insurance on the NS is through a different company.

I can't imagine they got far riding it. Apprently a car was stolen twice in the street next to mine that night too.

nah the police didn't say anythign about the condition, just that some kids were riding it.

It had just had a rebuild so maybe they were running it in nicely for me. Smile

I bet the little punks didn't top it up with 2t oil though.

The police only told me the name of the recovery company, I don't have a phone number or address. I've told the insurance company and they said they can't do anything without further information.

The cop who called me said he was only calling because he goes on holiday tomorrow.

The exhaust is too low to be used off-road, the KE100/125 is the off-road version of the KH

C-M you should have been given an incident number - if you call your local non-emergency line and give them that incident number they should be able to give you all the details about the case, including the current location of the bike.

Be prepared for a recovery fee and holding charge though, probably £105 + £12 a day.
