basicall,y my bike struggles to do 60mph. dont wanna get minors (or worse) on my test for going too slowly. the bike will go faster as it warms up mor but it started coughing today at about 50mph. Should I just do my best on the test? Or should I maybe warn the examiner before hand?

thanks

Fit a nitrous kit. Thumbs Up

Get into a racing crouch Thumbs Up

or just hammer it.

surely if you're bike can't manage 60 you can't take your test on it???? Confused Note could be a load of crap.

I'm sure that there is a rule that says that the bike has to be capable of 61 (or is that 62) mph to be acceptable for a test. Have a look on the DSA/DVLA website.

right, i jus found this

"A standard motorcycle (category A) is defined as a solo motorcycle between 121 and 125 cc, capable of exceeding 100 km/h (62.1mph). "

So I'm starting to worry as my test is on monday. Maybe I'll be able 2 get away with it and I wont need to do 60mph? Or maybe as my bike warms up ill be able to thrash it up to 60. Any ideas?

Thanks

You will need 60. The examiner HAS to take you on a NSL to prove that you can get up to those speed safely. Thumbs Up

i think the test does require a bike that will do 60...
but i cant see you getting failed for low speed.....unless you go i na national speed limit...even so they will be tough to do you for only going 50 -55 when your new to biking...

they will be more concerned about road sense......e stop, u turn, observations etc...

if you feel more confident on your own bike then stick to it......

yeah, will I just get a minor or 2 for doing 55 in a 60? I'm going to look for places I can rent a bike from, but it's getting a bit late now. I just want to know that I wont fail purely for going 55mph in a 60.

Thanks

You can fail for not making sufficient progress when the conditions allow. Prey for rain!

You'll be fine. Its better to do your test on a bike you know and can control well. The examiner will know that your giving all that the bike can give, 55 in a sixty is fine.

I also did mine on an XR125 and I reckon the only way it would ever get to a REAL 60 would be downhill. On an NSL, I just accelerated quickly to show I was ware of the speed change and it was fine. Don't worry yourself. The examiners are well aware of a 4stroke 125's lack of power.

you will not be going on any NSL roads on a 125 test.
it's just that the bike has to be able to do it, on the spec sheet it says it can, that's good enough.

Thank god my CBR can pull a nice comfortable 65mph ^_^

I managed to get an indicated 80, but that was on an 11% gradient Shocked

I had a couple on mine, one of them being a long straight and the other being some twisty roads where you would struggle to get 60 anyway though. But I suppose 95% of the test was in 30's and 40's.

I did. Several times. I suppose it varies from place to place.

https://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/LearnerAndNewDrivers/PracticalTest/DG_4022723

Read the minimum vehicle requirements. That'll tell you what you need to know. If you aren't sure talk to someone in the know. e.g. an exmainer.

My XR125 does a top of 70mph, however with a breeze and a slight incline that drops to 50ish. I'm planning to use my bike to do my A2 licence test so I'll just be hoping it's on the right roads in the right weather conditions!! Shocked

I only took my test a month ago for the second time, the first time i failed for going 35mph in a 30mph n Embarassed He explained to me that its better to go 30mph on a 40mph than it is to speed. He also said that on a NSL road he only expects 50 - 55 mph (same as in a car). As long as you dont go danerously slow i.e 30mph on a 60mph you'll be ok.

Best of luck
Mel
