Right, ive been on road for 2 years this september, firstly on a scooter and then on my honda nsr. Ive just booked my test at the wakefield centre which i dont know where it is so ill have to find it within the next two weeks. I know how to lifesafer properly correct postioning etc etc. Ive bought a book which cost me £12 and tells me anything the only thing which i havent done is have lessons which i dont think i need them. But now im starting to worry, i basically want to know "How hard is the test" are they really strict or just looking for normal legal riding? Oh and anther thing will my nsr be suitable for the test, if not its too late lol

If you can do a U-Turn on a NSR, then it will be suitable in my opinion.

If you are unsure if you can u-turn the nsr in the space he gives you on the test ask if you can wheel the bike in a U-turn to see if the bike will actually make it round. Obviously making the appropriate checks to make sure its clear for you to do so.

When I did my test (3 years ago nearly) the tester asked me to push the bike round first, then do the u-turn. Don't know if it's different depending on area - did mine in Cornwall.

I did my test yesterday and found it far less strict than the car test and its not that hard. I have only been riding since March and in that time only covered 200 miles.

They are looking for an all round safe ride....not perfection. I am at work at the moment, but when I get home I will post a useful link, that will give you some idea what to expect.

Thats part of the U turn anyway. The offical reason is so its proven the bike will go ruond in the space provided. The unoffical reason is so that examiners don't have to turn cars around.

The test isn't easier than a car test but is doable.

Just be very clear about putting your lifesavers in - he is looking at the back of your head for the movements.
MSL PSL dofers
Indicators - its a fail if you are indicating and pass a road on that side
You are allowed three minor errors in any one catagory so if you make a minor mistake don't worry about it just get on with the road ahead of you.

I'm just pointing that out because in my test I had no option to do this.

I was told by my instructor he'll ask me to push the bike round then to ride it round. On my actual test the instructor just told me to ride it round. I actually said sorry you want me to ride it round first? And he said he did.

Got round it no problems but the bike I was on could turn round in half a lane if you wanted it to.

He shouldn't have done! From teh DSA website:

During the test specific manoeuvres must be carried which include:

emergency stop exercise
An emergency stop is given on every motorcycle test and can be given at any time during the test. The candidate will be told the route to take and the examiner will demonstrate the signal that will be given.

wheeling / stand exercise
The candidate will be asked to position the machine alongside the kerb and put it on its stand, then take the machine off the stand and wheel it across the road in a 'U' turn. (Either a centre or side stand is acceptable, but a machine without a stand is not suitable for the purposes of the test).

U-turn exercise
Via the radio, the examiner will ask the candidate to ride the machine back across the road. The candidate will be asked to move off from a parked position and to turn the machine around to face the opposite way, within the road width.

slow ride exercise
If the candidate has not had the opportunity to demonstrate their ability to control the machine at slow speed e.g. at junctions, they will be asked to ride as if in slow-moving traffic as a separate exercise.

After the practical part of the test the candidate will be asked a question on 'balance when carrying a passenger'.
