today i got talking to a bloke at the bike breakers who was towing his friend who was about to scrap his bike.

after a while, he asked if i wanted to buy his yamaha XJ600 for £300, i thought 'hmm, if i had the money'.

so i jokingly said 'ill give you a CB400 superdream for it'.
he already has one apparantly...

then i said 'how about a GSXR400 from 1984 that doesnt run too well?'

'ok' he said.

so i got his number and just have to give him a call!

heres to put it into perspective.

im going to streetfighter it if i get it because theyre fucking gay with fairings.
that and its a bit tatty, it runs though as he demonstrated, and a damn sight better than my GIX does.
trade a 400 for a 600?
are XJ600's good?

it also failed its MOT on fork seals.

please feedback because i dont know what to think about it,
cheers queers xxx

Depends, I prefer the looks of the streetfightered GSXR but if it's a dog and you can swap it for a bike that only needs fork seals then I'd say it's a good deal.

You could probably flog the fairings for a few bob too when you remove them.

I would of thought you might get a bit more for the GSXR?

Although it only failed on the fork seals the important bit is why the seals failed. Bushes knackered £50ish worth of parts. forks are shagged £100+ and you will still need to buy the bushes and seals.

Little stuff can easily become a pain in the wallet.

I take it that the xj600 is not the actual bike in the picture? If it is then its a no brainer, do the fork seals which are a piece of piss to do then you have a usable half decent albeit old bike. Question

no, its not the one in the pic, but it wouldnt take much to make it look like that, its just a few chips.

I'd go for the XJ, but definitely keep the fairings. They look unbelievably crap if you take them off.

They handle really well (if a touch heavy) and will make a load more power than the baby gix.

Being as I generally prefer faired, it does look better without.

I'd say:

current ride(GIX?) -

what you done to it?
do you like it?
how much spent?
what's it need?
what do you find different between the two?

Yam:
what's it need?
would you get and like/use it?
cost overall?
work needed?
what do they have in common?

do the pro's and con's yourself, you will be riding/keeping/living with/around it. I could say get it, put all your heart into it, but I won't ever probably even see it so it's down to you. Thumbs Up

cheers steve:

current ride(GIX?) -

what you done to it? loads! re-made the loom, all new lights etc, stripped and cleaned most of it (apart from engine), re-valved the valves, re-exhausted the exhaust, cried on it, fucked it when it worked.

do you like it? fuck yeah! even though its a fuck to start Very Happy

how much spent? about £300 odd in total (bike and parts)

what's it need? nothing really, i think it'll pass an MOT, the starting seems a bit random whether it works or not.

what do you find different between the two? ones a tourer thing that looks a bit gay, reminds me of a tiny goldwing.
GIX looks different, not the average, sounds like a GP bike, quite nippy.

Yam:
what's it need? forks/fork seals, paint touch up.

would you get and like/use it? i think its fugly, but nippier than the GIX.

cost overall? my GIX

work needed? as above Razz

what do they have in common? 2 wheels. other than that, not a lot!
