They also make you turn it while walking first if they're not sure, to make sure there's space.

what you get taught on your cbt should be what you need for the test, you just need to do it perfectly. i dont think you need training, but it helps if you have a mate that has done theirs recently to help you getting emergency stop and u-turn spot on. apart from that, ride safe, plan well in advance, and make every little thing dead obvious.

Yeah, it's 125cc automatic. Like car licences. Geared allows you to ride any.

The certificate is the same, but you need to look at the very bottom line of tick-boxes...if you're under 17, you can only have a "provisional/moped" license, which means that you did your CBT on a moped.

I thought if you did it with gears, you could ride anything, if you did the CBT with an automatic you could only ride automatics. The only age thing is that you can only ride automatic 50cc s when you are 16...

When i booked mine he asked what i wanted to do it on >geared bike or pull n go! He said it would make no difference to what you ride< though they seemed a bit dodg! I did it on gears so i would get used to them!

I think the automatic n manual stuff is for cars

you can get geared mopeds, rs50s derbi gprs, these you can ride at 16. the cbt certificate allows you to ride anything up to 125 geared or not it is only recommend that you repeat it again on geared if you did it on a automatic. i did mine on a scoot, and brought a brand new derbi gpr and learnt the gears in a matter of well seconds, if you know what your doing in theory. The instructor said that you can ride anything at all, and the even tought people how to change gear on a cg 125 in the car park even if they were not 17.

Checked this up with a local bike school on Sunday.
A CBT covers you to ride anything up to 125cc, geared or not. This may be changing next year though.
If you pass your test on an auto you're restricted to Auto's. Manual's can ride anything.
Most schools/instructors will give you a CBT type situation if you're going from a scoot to a geared bike. Some examiners may not test you if you've not had enough experience on a geared bike (but you shouldn't really be taking the test then:))
This is all set to change next year supposedly. Geared/Auto CBT's, 2 part accelerated access test and loads more to make learners life's difficult

What's this 2-part test thing? I still haven't decided whether to try the restricted test with no lesson, or save up and go for the DAS.
