Anyone ever ridden one? What they like etc?

I've got the chance of getting one for £1,400, 2000 W (I think), 5,000 miles on the clock, MOT'd and taxed till Augest 03.

And more to the point, it's shiny. Very shiny. Lots of chrome etc.

I know most folk here don't like 125 cruiser bikes, but I'm sure there's a few that do.

So, should I go and get a loan and buy this beast?

To be honest that seems a bit expensive. Either haggle them down or make sure its a perfect one!

I paid just over £800 for my V plate one

i have ridden one, they are not as fast as an nsr but about 100 times more comfy, they seem really weird to ride compared to what i was use to but it was fun, dunno about the price but if that is the kinda bike ya into then go for it they look good too!!!

On second thoughts, I bought my bike with 18000km on it so that price might be about right.

It looks well ace when it has been waxed and all the chrome* has been polished, and sounds good for a 125.

I have a little hole in the exhaust, near the end of the downpipe, so that adds to the nice sound Smile

Things to watch out for - The paint on the crankcase and front forks is prone to corrosion in the winter. It was too late for mine, but if u get one make sure you clean it thoroughly, as often as possible.

Another thing - they burn oil rather quickly! Check it every few days

*There is not a lot of real chrome on the bike. A lot of it is electroplated, and some bits are shiny plastic.

AS I think I mentioned before... you should probably ignore me, as I've got a bike with 10x the power and only a little more weight... and still want something faster!
but....
If you're really willing to pay that much money for shiny bits, fair enough.
However that is what you're paying for, you can get a half-decent oldish 2stroke for a lot less, or even spend the money doing your test and get something like a gpz305. It isn't as shiny but is still reasonably comfortable and has a lot nicer power (ie not kill your self, but enough to beat everything bar top of the range sports cars off the line). It's also should be more flexible... it will still handle reasonably as well as being able to carry luggage/pillions etc.

I'd go for it.
I think these type of bikes are the perfect first bikes cause you don't need to worry if you drop it. (+they don't sound like lawnmowers)
you could get an old NSR but then you will prob have problems with it due to the age and the fact its probably been thrashed!
fair enough, the nsr has slightly more power, but at the end of the day they are all little bikes.

"now i'll get some little mouthy twat saying cruisers are shit get an nsr"

cruisers are shit get an nsr
Very Happy Very Happy

Personally I would be worried about dropping it @ £1400!
My NSR has actually been really reliable... even though I thrashed it everywhere. The NSR should have around 3x the power derestricted and i'd say is a much more reasonable prospect if the possibility of doing long distances/A Roads is in the future.
It's not so much the bike, but spending £1400 on it that I'd be worried about.. fair enough to dodd paying £800.. but you can get a whole load more with £1400.

Parts are still available, its just that the official importers have stopped bringing them in.

If you drop it, it has huge crash bars at the front so at the most you will get a few scratches and a broken indicator maybe

Mine is a high-miler for a 3 year old bike, its normal to have problems.

To be fair, when it seized up that was my own fault, and when the chain nearly snapped that was my fault... The battery not charging is a normal thing that can happen to anyone.

One thing I did notice yesterday... it vibrates a hell of a lot really. I had a go on my mate's new VT125 Shadow, and is was smooth as anything. No vibration at all, gearbox is smooth as anything. Makes mine feel a little rough, because as soon as you are on the move the mirrors vibrate too much to be able to see anything in them. On a long "high speed" run I can barely walk because of the vibration thru the right hand side footpeg!

It is a decent first bike, quite well put together and will kill any CG that tries to race you Smile

Try walking AFTER you get off the bike, it's easier. Rolling Eyes

Thats why I put it as "high speed". Meaning - thrashing the balls of it at about 75mph

They maybe slow and a bit shit but I managed fine when I had my SR125 and now I'm racing bikes so at three circuits - straight to a hornet (600)from an SR125! I learnt everything on my SR and jumped straight onto a 600 race bike and learnt the power pretty quickly.
