its quite a relaxed environment (or it was when i went to it). Its not a "test" so to speak its merely training to help you, don't worry too much but it helps if you have been on a motorbike before. Nothing to really worry about

I did my CBT in feb and this is what i did:

First thing showing driving licence (both parts).
then what you need to ride a bike legally questions
Then he went through a few highway code signs and other information.
Then showing you around the bike.
Then we spent 3-4 hours just driving around in the car park getting used to the bike (starting, stopping, clutch control, gear's, turns, lifesavers etc)
Then out in the afternoon on public roads, trying what we had done in the morning, then doing U-turns and emergency stops.
Then out on a long run around the city for 2 hours.

hopefully that sheds abit of light on it for you, as Ravage said its training not a test Very Happy

It is a fairly relaxed ''test''
purely because it is barely test like at all!

I only did mine a couple of months ago...well almost 9 now... Confused

but just make sure you listen to everything that they talk about and learn from mistakes you make during the morning training!
It comes in handy in the afternoon!!

Good Luck!

I did mine in April.

It's easy, and as said its training, so you can't fail unless you really cannot ride any bike, therefore truly dont deserve to ride on the road lol.

The worst, is that they will ask you to retake until you prove more confident etc.

It is easy, you start with how to go about junctions, lifesavers, indications etc, then go out for about 2 hours listening to instructions through the ear piece the instructor will give you.

You will be fine, just be sure to remember the sequences ( observation, signal, lifesaver, manouver, turn) which you will have been told before hand, and its a fun day out!

Tristan.

Here's the best guide I found to CBT:

https://www.begin-motorcycling.co.uk/cbt.htm

Explains it all in detail.

It all depends on who is taking you for your CBT. All my friends and myself had the same old 40+ p*ss*d off Harley Rider who had just quit smoking. Total nightmare, Sorry to put anyone off by this but he really changed my view about "learning" to ride a motorcycle. I completed CBT well, but he kid i was paired with made the examiner a bit more p*ss*ed off than he was, especially after he slid into a round-about after breaking to late and sailing onto the other side of the road around a corner Rolling Eyes

I failed by CBT the first time round as I had no experience with bikes other than being pillion, are you saying I shouldn't be on the road now?

To the original poster: It all depends on what the test centre is like in strictness, mine were pretty tight but in the long run I prefered it.
I got have a go on the bike a little bit longer than most getting used to gears and stuff.
There is nothing wrong with not being ready for the road so don't worry too much about it if you don't get it as quick as you hoped.

Blimey!
Sounds like some people had it hard!

I had it fairly easy...just remember to keep doing lifesavers!
The boy I was with almost failed his CBT through lack of doing lifesavers!

and Don't worry if you haven't been on a bike before...
You get plently of time in the morning to get your confidence up, before going out on the road!!

onw thing to remember is not to hesitate at junctions, the guy i was doing the cbt with failed because he was stopping every time we were turning, even when there was nothing coming either way.

I did mine over two days as I'd had a few issues getting used to the bike. Whilst most of the others went out on the road, those that were left hacked it around the playground and got to grips with the bike. Went back again next week for the afternoon part, headed out on the road and after the other rider had to be taken back to the school as she wasn't safe enough at that point (now rides a CBR400) it left just me and the instructor. He said afterwards that once it was just me, I came into my stride and had no qualms at all about signing my 196 CBT Cert.
