I have bought a brand new DT175 - maybe one of the last made - but it comes restricted. I will remove the exhaust restrictor ... but is there anything else I need to look for? Any tips on air filter / air box changes, jetting etc?

Also I just cannot seem to find a manual ... any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Most obliged to you all.

Err ... sorry, but the DT175 are restricted. For a start, they have a restrictor in the exhaust.

I am located in Australia ... where the DT175 has been available from Yamaha until this year.

I have bought what may be the last one!!

you should have upjetted the carb when you removed the exhaust restriction, if you havnt already do it now because it will damage your engine if you dont as the bike will be running lean and will overheat and score the piston and cylinder, maybe even sieze it, you could also add an open airfilter that goes directly onto the carb, so you would disconnect the airbox. you will need to upjet for this aswell.

there may also be a restriction of the cdi but im afraid i dont knw much about this, it would be best to get in touch iwth ur dealer

ive gotta agree with you on open airfilters, i think overall airboxes are better.
but open airfilters will give better throttle response and slightly better acceleration, then again they make the bike run like sht if the weather is at all cold or wet. i use an airfilter for summer and change back to airbox for winter.

Where abouts is the restrictor located and is it a plate or a baffle?

Even the old DT175MX's (2k4) models had a restrictor, at least mine has...i'm thinking of cutting it out.

but its a 30 year old bike,,,so the thread is young and whether the exhaust is restricted or not may be relevent to people who have these bikes...clearly you dont ...lol!
the worst offenders of digging up old threads are those that do it in the for sale or wanted sections, technical discussions dont have a sell by date IMO

I replaced the stock "black"oil line that runs from the pump to the carb. The new one is clear and I noticed that the line doesn't stay full there's air gaps in it. I let the bike idle and held the pump open and it filled the line. I rode it and when I got back it had more air in it. Does anyone know if this is normal? It seems to be oiling ok because it's smoking.
