I'm not sure why, but last night i had the urge to throw the bike down some greenlanes. I think it's coming from the fact that I'm scared of road riding. Police round every corner and my cornering ability has deteriorated since an off a few years ago and buying a car.

So, searched BCF and found THIS link. Signed up, paid my £5.50 and downloaded the basic starter route for my area. Transferred the route to an OS map and set out mid morning. Packed a bag with tyre sealant, basic tools, water, chocs, 1st aid kit, phones, maps, route.

It was 25 miles in total, with 10 miles "off road". Doesn't sound much, but i covered it in just under three hours.

The bike : Yr 2000 Cagiva SuperCity running ~35BHP and GPR'70s. Not the ideal off road weapon, but it handled everything that was thrown at it. The slicks made even the slightest damp patched like diesel. Suspension was fine for 40mph gravel tracks. Brakes were rather sharp for nearly everything.

Some pictures. Didn't walk any part of the route. Had to stop a fair bit as the the "spin it and prey" sections got the bike a bit warm. I'd get warm doing 3 mph in second gear and 7,000rpm....

Couple of bow waves right over the front mudguard. Couple of flying by the seat of the pants moments.

If you've got a trail / SM bike and you haven't tried any sort of off roading on it you're missing out big style. Even my "learner" 125 baby bike was a great laugh and learning experience!

Knackered now and find sitting on the bike a bit of a strange experience. Standing up, weight over the front FTW!

Very Happy

Roll on next weekend!

Sounds good fun, and is that a hole in your headlamp, or is it a black sticker?

Black sticker as the headlamp dips to the left / imported bike.

Is all very good fun and have been looking at the longer routes. Thumbs Up
