Honda VTR1000 Fire-storm/SP1/SP2
Suzuki TL1000R/TL1000S/SV1000S

American name for the SP1/SP2.

If it was me I'd be more tempted by the XB12R, has more shunt than the 9.

Ridden
Sp1
RSVR 04+
TL1000R
and a brief go on a 999s

Best bike would definatly be the RSVR, not quite sure on the older models but the 04+ ones are brillant.

TLR's are good too,(and cheap ) but you really need one with a sorted rear shock because the rotary one sucks.

Theres not a huge choice of proper sports V-Twins. They've all been posted above.

I had a similar problem and choose the SP1, It's a good machine. It's one of the better V-Twins with real race pedigree.

I've posted this a few times, it's the only decent V-Twin shootout/comparison I found when searching

https://www.motorcycle-usa.com/Article_Page.aspx?ArticleID=1201&Page=1 <-- Track Test

Like with anything though, test ride them all.

Id be intrerested to know why your limiting yourself to V twins. What do you think they would give you over a square 4 or any other arrangement? People often say torque but to be honest you have to be a damn good rider to be able to use the torque difference a twin has over a 4 cylinder bike and nowadays that difference is very small, what with power commandos and the like their isn't much difference.
If on the other hand it's because of cash, service costs etc then fair enough.

Sorry but I totally disagree. There is a MASSIVE difference between low down grunt of a twin and a four. I've got a CBR600rr and when I open my wrist there is a lot less response than my ER6n at low revs. I could clutch wheelie my ER6 at low revs. The CBR? No chance of wheelies before at least 8-10 thousand even with the clutch!

True but he's talking litre bikes here. Take any 1000cc + 4 with a power commando set up properly and you'd be hard pressed to notice the difference on the road or the track unless you were a competition class racer.
Now if all you wanna do is wheelie then there are far better bikes for that but most of us want to be able to ride the thing too.

Fair enough. But going from a 70bhp twin to a 120bhp four, my next bike is gonna be a litre twin (unless I get a tremendous deal on a blade)

Will do. Although it wont be for a good couple of years.

And also, I need to wait and see what the new Aprilia V4 is going to be like.

At the moment my heart is set on a Ducati S4R! They are just so modern, yet so retro. And they go and sound like thunder!

I'm after a V twin because I've not owned one before and want to try something different, but still staying to the sports styled bike. I also think they have more character to them and a better sound than an IL4. I'm currently riding an IL4 600cc. Servicing costs and maintenance aren't really a problem as such.

I'm in the same boat. And I've bought 2 brand new bikes in the last year.

Need to keep my wallet in my pocket for a bit!

There's not that many bikes currently manufactured with that engine configuration - in fact, i can't think of one. I'd guess the last was probably the RG500.
