hi all,

The chain on my CB seems to be catching just above where it goes onto the front sprocket when i tighten it up. It doesnt catch as much when its slack but i thought a chain should only have a few mm's play? i recently changed the wheel and it seemed fine when i put it back together and ive been using it for about a week or more. Only noticed it tonight. Any one give any advice?

thanks

A few mm is way too tight. It would probably end up snapping before it wears to the end if you carry on like that. The lowest I have seen is an inch, both ways, and the most being around two inches.

Have you also checked the chain for tight spots, perhaps that could be causing problems with your chain catching.

Has it been lubed recently?

How many miles have you done with it?

What do you call a few m/m ???

Most chains require at least 1/2 inch free play, when bike is on its wheels.
That would be about 12.5 m/m.....

turns out the chain was to tight when i took a look last night. Adjusted it up and it seems fine now. Still a very slight scrape when its on the stand but its fine when its on to wheels.

oh and the chains only done a few hundred miles and it has a scott oiler fitted.
