I just seen their advert on the tele, and it's apparently £3 for an HPI by text, plus usual operators fee, https://www.onesoon.co.uk/textcheck/ I've not done it yet, but when I get some credit later on tonight, I am. Thumbs Up according to the site, text:

CHECKIT <space> [your reg no] to 83600

Disclaimer:
I'm not in anyway involved in this 'scheme/service' and cannot be held responsible for anything not good that incurs if you use this service. Thumbs Up

If anyone's brave enough before me, let us know how you get on Laughing Mr. Green

For £3 it gives the police / dvla info.
Its an additional £1.50 if you want the insurance details as well.

I hope to try it tonight, but it's all worth it compared to the shop's/garages price. Thumbs Up

I posted this a couple of days ago. Sad No one ever listens to me:

Stolen from another forum re: cars but valid for bikes:

Quote:
There are currently 3 companies who are licensed to receive DVLA information:

1. Experian Ltd (joint venture with the AA)
2. HPI
3. CarWatch UK

Of the 3 CarWatch do NOT supply finance information, mileage data or indemnity (insurance if the data is wrong). That is why they are cheap!!!! Finance is the most important and most expensive piece of data. If a car has finance on it when you buy the car, the finance company still owns the vehicle NOT YOU. Even if the seller tells you it has finance but claims he has paid it, Experian, the AA and HPI will contact the finance company directly to investigate, CarWatch cannot do this.

Experian supplies the data to the AA for the Car Data Check that they offer. The AA also offer a £19.99 check with no finance data.

There is not ones centralised database, each company pools together the following data:

1. DVLA & DVLNI
2. ABI (Insurance data - e.g. condition)
3. Finance data (Finance and Leasing Association FLA) form all the finance companies
4. Police - PNC (Police National Computer)
5. Hire companies e.g. Hertz
6. Mileage data (each company has its own way of doing this)
...there are other data sources but I won't bore you!

If you get a car checked through a dealer you will not be able to receive any indemnity if the data they provide is incorrect so this is not he best policy. Whats £35 when you are buying piece of mind?

I know the above as I work for one of the companies listed above. Experian and HPI also supply the facility to motor dealers, finance companies and other companies to allow them to complete checks. I would ALWAYS advise doing a check at when privately buying a car, ensuring that you check the VIN too.

There are text lines as well that charge £1.50 I did one on my bandit and it came back true, but i can't find the number!
Found the number, no guarantee.

Quote:
simply text CHECK (then space) and Reg u want to check to 88600.

Instant response.

total cost £1.50 & usual text cost.

So there you go. Smile Karma
