So Basically ive gone through bikes like hot dinners in the past year,
Had a Ducati 749s, and a CBR600RR and a little bit before that a GSXR750 K2.

I though there wasnt much point of me having a nice 5-6k bike anymore, i didnt really want to trackday them, although i did tour on both the Ducati and the CBR600RR, i went to France and Italy on the R a month ago and loved every minute of it, when i got back i was riding alot quicker than usually probably due to the amount of fast riding in France and i just wasnt enjoying road riding anymore.
I pretty much only ride nowdays on rideouts or touring.
So i had the idea of getting a sensible road bike and maybe a full on track bike, but then instead of going the sensible route i got the most unsensible bike ive ever owned, and i got an absolute bargain, so money is going to be spend setting it up because the suspention is set up for a fat bloke.
and to top it off i got £180 BACK from my insurance insuring it.

Okay so its a 1999 TL1000R
Full Yoshimura system with RS3 cans and custom map (LOUD)
Ohlins Rear shock
Ohlins Steering damper
Ohlins Front fork internals
Harris Rearsets
8900 Miles

has been down on the right hand side, hense the bargain price, but it doesnt both me too much, its not that noticable.

That is lovely, Waive.

I'm fully jealous.

And aside from the spill, it's obviously been with someone who didn't forgo any expense on it.

Enjoy it. And hopefully see you on a rideout at some point!

sold the CBR600RR for 4k and picked this up for 2200.
ALOT!!! of bike for little money.
Its insane to ride at the moment with the current suspention settings.
ive ridden many bikes ranging from GSXR1000s to BMW RG1150GS and even a Harley V-rod but this bike with the current suspention setting is the scariest bike ive ever ridden
It was a toss up between this and G's 1980s crapper bmw with no brakes.

Excellent. So what's the plan?

Sort out the suspension for a skinny little cunt like you and then trackbike it? Razz

It's an acquired taste but I really love these bikes. A lot of people hate the SRAD hump but I love it, think it makes it look very streamlined and definitely defines what bike it is very well. Absolute bargain price though.. really! Shocked . Full Ohlins suspension and only 8400miles for £2200 is seriously cheap! You could probably sell it on for more if you didn't want to keep it (but that would be silly! Razz ). Enjoy it.

Brakes on it are absolute pants, needs a full stirpping down cleaning, pads and braided lines, oil change for peace of mind, SUSPENTION SET UP!!!!!!!! and some new tyres.
Whats the point of having all that trick suspention and then put D207s on it.

Don't forget the oil filter if you're changing the oil Wink

Looking forward to some trackside photos Thumbs Up

I have to ask though, one thing that's always got them about me is they look, RIDICULOUSLY heavy, are they so? Or is there not a noticeable difference?

Not as heavy as you think, there not even as big as you think when you are on it.
I had a little play with the suspention and took it for a proper rag down some local roads and phwoar, its got a lot more potential, but when its set up it should be mint.
setting up the steering damper is a job too, if its too loose it tankslaps ALOT.

Cheers Joe, ive seen him at a race meeting, im planning on getting a service by a TL specalist to see if theres any underlying problems then ill be larry.

not sure on wet weight, but im only 9st 10 and i manage pushing it round just fine, pulls like a train with my light ass on it.

The TL is a bit of a marmite bike, its challenging to ride, but when you do its quite rewarding, and it sounds immense, these sort of bikes have cult followings bit like ducati, lovers and haters.

Was sorely tempted by a TL1000r - that is a mad price it really is.
Alas after some reading up and such im not sure it would be my cup of tea to live with, although if i found one with the suspension sorted with those low miles............

Nice find Thumbs Up

The size was my next question, they look fecking huge as well! Similar size to a GSXR SRAD...albeit with a longer wheelbase?

Let us know how you like it when the suspenSion and damper are set up properly mate.

yea, i looked for one with sorted rear suspention at least (alot of them do) because the Standard one is pants it really is.
Mine must be a hell of alot lighter than the standard, i was putting the standard exhaust system in the loft earlier, it weighs a ton, so does the Rotary rear shock.

The Ohlins shock saves 3.2kgs
The Full system saves 7kgs
its also had loads of standard crap revomed from the rear, the stainless pillion heel plates must weigh a kilo each.

I have been playing around with the suspention myself, i have got it pretty good but it could be alot better, it now can be chucked around.

Will be interesting to see how it goes on the track, full Ohlins gubbings should do the trick! Can't believe the price, if your selling it again...... Wink
