hi, i had a pretty bad crash about a month ago and just wondered if i was lucky or not. I mean lucky in the way that my visor was illegal as it is blue iridium, my exhaust was stubbied without a baffle, it wasnt restricted and it was modified quite a lot from standard as it was streetfightered, and nothing came of it even though it should have been restricted and i said my bike wasnt modified.

Police were on the scene, exhaust for all to see, visor the same. No one batted an eyelid, not even the vehicle inspector after the accident.

At not one point did the insurance company get involved as the inspectors are independant and the police just didnt care.

i dont know what the point in this post is, im just bored as im stuck in the house with injuries. Am i just lucky or has this happened to anyone else?

Oh and the crash wasnt the result of the bike not being restricted

Well there has to be some degree of luck in there I suppose. It depends on the circumstances of the accident really. If they think that speed was a factor in the accident, chances are they'll check to see if your bike was restricted.

If it was in the dark when you crashed, then a keen-eyed copper would probably say something about your visor. In the daylight though, I don't think most people even realise that they're illegal.

As for the exhaust... well no one can really blame a crash on an exhaust can they (In fact, quite the opposite). Smile

My sig doesn't even cover all of them technically... Let me see... I've got a few minutes to spare...

My YB100 was stolen... then I purchased a TZR125. Upgraded to a Diversion 600 after I passed my test, and 'gave' the TZR to a friend who needed transport to his apprenticeship (He had a CBT) on the understanding that he'd pay me once he'd earned some money. A month later he quit his apprenticeship (didn't like it), and thus couldn't afford his insurance. The bike sat outside uncovered in the pouring rain and snow for a few months, and then wouldn't start, making it useless (and impossible) for me to take it back.

Shortly after I was hit off my Diversion on my way to uni by a woman who didn't look both ways at a junction. Short ride to hospital, no serious injuries, woman accepted liability straight away and police gave her 3 points for Driving without Due Care and Attention. Diversion was written off, I was given a yellow Bandit as a hire bike for a few weeks... then I was given 75% of what I paid for it (750 quid). Argued for more, sent off evidence, never heard back from them.

Used the write-off money, plus my written off Divvy to buy another bike, a Bandit. Really enjoyed that bike for the two months that I had it, before I was hit at another junction by a guy who was too impatient to check right before actually turning right. I bailed, bike hit the ground hard. Guy apologized, gave me his details and drove off. Bike is in garage, and has been for... 82 days now (His insurance company apparently won't answer the phone to mine, and won't respond to the letters). Another hire Bandit delivered to my house. A few days ago I was told that he's arguing liability (Meaning that I was told *nothing* for two months, THEN told he's arguing), and they're taking the hire Bandit off me on Wednesday because I've had it for too long. My Bandit is still in the garage and is no closer to being fixed than it was two months ago, and I'm about to lose my transport.

So yeah, by comparison, actually I'd call you very fucking lucky. Laughing

Depends on the contributing factors of the accident whether things are looked at. 13Months after my head on in the car the girl who hit me insurance company wants to look at the car again to asses it was road worthy. Even though she was on our side of the road! Luckily the Police did it on my request as I wanted to scrap the car.

So they may not have finished with the bike yet if the insurance get arsey!

My bike was stupidly illegal when it was inspected, also the damage totals where about 10x exaggerated to what it should have been...I claimed dents and scratches that where caused getting it out of the garage where caused from the crash. Same for alot of other stuff! I got £1000 for a broken clutch lever basically Thumbs Up Very Happy

Can't wail 'til the rest of my compo starts pouring in, I suggest you all go out and crash!

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm sure that I read somewhere that it is legal to have a tinted visor as long as it's daytime but you have to carry and clear visor around with you.

Tinted visors are legal, but no more than a certain percentage of tint (I'm not completely sure sure on what this is...about 15-20% I think?). Anything darker than the legal tint is illegal, as there will be no kitemark or quality assurance mark on the visor. You can get done even if you have a clear visor with you. I think there are a few enlightened Coppers out there that recognise a dark visor is far safer in bright sun than a clear one, but they tend to be the exception rather than the rule. Sad

By law, visors must comply with BS4110 XA, YA or ZA and must allow at least 50% ambient light to pass through. The fact you're also carrying a legit one doesn't matter.

Phil, have you had any cash from the insurance yet?
