hi,
I really want to get my front end up a decent amount. I have an Honda XL250, old but cheap. I can pop it up about a foot in 1st, but then it goes down again.
Is it just the fact that its a low powered bike, or should i try a different way, like using the clutch?

can anyone explain the clutch method?can it help me?

Are you "living hard" by owning an XL250?

I can't comment on wheelies really, 3 of my bikes including the one i have now are shafties. However, my trusty RD125 was a pretty good wheelie popper, rolling at about 10mph in first, pull in clutch rev like a twat, pop clutch, try to get in second... arrghhhhh....ohhh nooo, need a new back light.... oww that hurts a bit Laughing

I'm not recommending you do it, but will be on topic and give the best advice/tips for it I can.

If your bike has enough power...2nd gear, say 30mph, get into them middle of the rev range, say 7000rpm and twist that throttle right back, and lift the bars up!

Or: (obviously take it carefully, and maybe lower revs to start with)

Standing start
Arrow keep the throttle pinned around 1/2 - 3/4 and med - high revs (8000 ish)
Arrow Put into 1st gear
Arrow Release clutch fairly heavily, and a split secind after it has been released about halfway, try to lift the bars as much as poss.

That should do it! Take it easy!

Tristan.

Why do you think I've been ostracised from VD, after I denied it was a photoshop? Razz

Search on here for details of clutch wheelies.
Basically clutch in-rev-twang out. As ever, start small and work your way up. Play with revs starting at as well as additional revs dumped with clutch.

Feeble minds Mr. Green , I have a R1150GS, easier to lift the front than my trusty ZRX1100 was.

Oooh are those pipes straight thru? Bet that sounded sweet! Drooling

Sold it now; they weren't quite straight through, but much baffle; for a twin did sound quite nice. Had it described as "like two cylinders of a spitfire firing up" Smile.

Simple... roll along slowly at 5mph, rev to near redline, then dump the *butch[/edit]Clutch* sharpish... and hold on. To keep it up, try cutting throttle off and pulling round full again straight away(snapping back on).

Or to save your bike or yourself, don't wheelie(Can't hold me responsible if you follow ^that^)
