What do you ride?
I have an L Plate stuck to the inside of the screen on my CBR....
Obviously if your bike has no screen you can't do that ____________________

I have a slightly smaller than normal plate, and I have never had a problem with it over here, as it's not taking the piss small like. It will be something to comment on if you are pulled over, like a race can, but it's just one of those things, you get away with it until you don't. ____________________ My Bikes - - - Royal Enfield 500 with sidecar, VFR800, CBR600FX,

mine is 8x2 so it is taking the piss a fair bit....
£30 non endorsable penalty and 20 mins lecture on how if my bike was stolen a full size plate would help them find it..... ____________________ Current : '08 Yamaha FZ1s

I'm just wondering if there is a certain thing you should say if pulled over by a copper who notices your small plate. I'm thinking of along the lines of "giving my full attention to the road ahead" when pulled over for speeding.
So should you pretend that you thought it was legit, or just say that you got a small one cause it looks better, or just act dumb, or what?
I have a sneaky feeling that Stinkwheel will have the right answer to this: he seems to have had lots of experience with dealing with coppers |

Try and pull one over on the Police and your going to get done, they have heard it all before. Ignorance of the law is no excuse, best thing to do is grovel like a little girl and say you will change it as soon as you get home. Don't be caught with it a second time though. ____________________ Andy Sez....

I customer at my regular dealership got caught for a small plate the other day - £30 fine but no points etc.
He asked the occifer what the score was with the offence being recorded etc, but was told that it's purely an on-the-spot fine...
so he winks and replies "see ya next week then"
For the record, I believe the standard size is 9x7" - mine is 8x6 (or 8x5) so it's smaller than standard, but hasn't provoked any unwanted plod attention yet.
Also, as already mentioned, ignorance is no defence, but some convincing grovelling may work ____________________ 1st bike (Sept'06 - May'10) : 1991 GPZ500S / Current bike (since Nov 2009) : 2003 Suzuki Bandit 600N

This isnt about learner plates but reg plates.
At my last mot at the beginning of July two of the MOT guys mates were in the shop arguing about small reg plates. MOT chap says the reg plate has to be in the correct format and readable from 15 meters (20.5 is for a car apparently) according to the mot book issued by the Ministry of Transport. No mention of size. And he also said that you should only get a rectification order slapped on you not a fine. He continued his rant by saying if I can read it its fine, if I fail it I can be in as much trouble as if I passed it, and anyway, this isnt about reading the plate its about what a speed camera can see. Top bloke. He also mentioned that Exhaust cans dont have to have any BSEN or manufactures stamps on them anymore, they just have to be in reasonable condition and to not be too loud
Now this is just what my mot bloke said, so dont take it as gospel as there have been a few bikers with small plates nicked in the area.
Regards
Lee. ____________________ Simson S51 Enduro, Kawasaki AR80, Yamaha RD125LC, Yamaha XV535, Yamaha XJ600N, Suzuki GS1100G, Kawasaki KLR250, Yamaha BT1100 Bulldog (4/4/08 Deceased). Suzuki XF650 Breakwind. |

when i was stopped he was goingto give me a rectification notice first but i asked politely for a fixed penalty as its cheaper and easier to pay that by post than it is pay my local garage to check the plate and stamp the piece of paper for me to take it down to the police station within 14 days or whatever it is. ____________________ Current : '08 Yamaha FZ1s

i think the official word on non - marked exhausts - as long as they meet emissions - is "at the examiners discretion" isnt it? ____________________ killa wrote: Im an ass man myself |
