I personally wouldn't go near anything with more than 50,000 on the clock.

But it is a CG, and they are durable bikes, so i don't want to underestimate it. 4 stroke Rebuilds are expensive i hear.

but for £250, if your not hoping to keep it round for longer than a year or so, cant really complain.

You lucky, lucky sod. Tax and test'd running CG for £250? I'd say you paid about half what the bike is worth

Mileage is just a number to a CG, as Jamie says they don't die.

Mine had somewhere in the region of 48k on it when it was stolen - with no sign of wearing out any time soon.

The CG has a very simple, low stress engine so with the tiniest bit of care it just goes on and on and on...

Depending on previous owners it may need consumables such as oil, tires, spark plug replacing but seriously you can't go wrong. Get yourself a Haynes with the 'W' model in it, a few tools and you will find there are very few jobs that cannot be done by yourself and some friends.

The only CG I know of which was killed without a major crash or chavs being involved was one whre the owner attempted running it without any oil in it. The engine internals ate themselves and it needed a full engine swap. As it happens I had a spare in my garage for an everybody wins straight swap.

Parts for CGs are very cheap. A fully functional engine can be got off of eBay for £75 - a new wiring loom from Honda (I needed one after abotched theft attempt) £60. You get the idea.

Welcome to Honda Country.

My CG has 48k miles on its clocks, and has shown absolutely no signs of giving up yet. It had just had a rebuild when I bought it, mind, but I suspect it could easily get up to 100k without trouble, and then some.

Oh, and £250 is dirt-cheap. I paid £550 for mine, and that was 2-300 cheaper than the norm around here.

I paid £875 for my 2001 model CG125W with 3,000 miles on the clock

If the engine dies, just buy a new one, a good runner must only be about 50 quid?

And can be took out in about 20 minutes.

I knew some one who used to have a spare engine (full working one) in his garage " just incase"

£250, what have you got to loose?

As people have mentioned the CG125 is very hard to kill.
I have been amazed at the honda dealer mechanics every ware telling me how the engine goes on and on without any need for them to touch it.

Non of them have said 50,000 and its knackered.
They have been saying, opened one up at 85,000 and it was perfect in side.
All the others were between that and around 100,000. They all reckoned it would keep going beyond that with a little work.

I do not no whether I should believe them or not, but together, some of them must be right?

They all did tell me the same thing, you must change the oil regularly.
They all said, if you do not, you will need their help to clean the engine out.

Since you do not no how much neglect the bike has had over the years (loads probably), I would clean the air filter and check the valve clearance. Their both very quick and easy things to do. Change the spark plug and the oil, again very easy.

If you are worried about the engine for any reason, you can check the oil level.
Any sine of it burning excessive amounts of oil means you will need to open the engine up.
The only other thing left is to check the spark plug colour, its colour tells you how the engine is running. Search the internet for a colour chart.
