Guys,

A mate gave me his old leathers, and they fit very well. They have a few scuffs and small rips that don't really bother me, however the zip on the jacket is unreliable, i.e. I have to zip it up and down about 10 times before it will fasten properly.

Has anyone had a zip replaced in their jacket, and how much was it?

Cheers

Con

I dont know cost wise, but yes zips can be unsewn, then new one's sewn back on. My dad's had it done.

Find yourself nice freindly elderly lady who'll do it for you, they can normally sew pretty damn well and will do it for a couple of squid plus a zip.

I've had zips replaced before. Expect about £30.
I would take it to a 'proper' motorbike leather repairer; remember you're relying on this for your safety. When I had my Dianese leathers repaired, the replacement bits were stronger than the original fixings (which isn't saying much, admittedly).

If you live anywhere around Reading/Thames Valley/Oxford, I can give you the details of someone I'd recommend.

If I can replace the zip on a boot I'm sure most people can do one on a jacket. Remove the old one and use the existing stitch-holes to sew in the new one. Thumbs Up

I had the joining zip on my 2-piece suit replaced last year - cost me £16. I would imagine for the front zip you are looking at about £20-25 due to the fact that it's sewn into the leather...

I took mine to a normal clothes alteration place that people had said also did bike leathers.
