Hi Mike

You've pretty much said it yourself - you've vibrated the blood out of the little capilleries in your hand - same as if you were using heavy equipment.

I've seen a couple of suggestions over the years. One is weighted barends. Another is foam grips on the bars kind of like some of the BMX/mountain bike kids have.

Could be the vibes, could be your grip is too tight, could be the position of your wrist. Your right wrist gets the chance to move as it operates the throttle, your left might be in a death grip on the left bar... I have to regularly remind myself to relax, a tip I read in RiDE/Bike (August issue) was to sit on the bike with the balls of your feet on the pegs (you'll need a centre-stand or a mate) hold the bars as you normally would. Next release your grip and hover your palms over the bars holding your position using other muscle groups i.e. thighs, buttocks, stomach, back etc... The next part is harder but when you recognise which muscles you're using, practice this out on the road, relax and loosen your grip on the bars using the other muscles. Thumbs Up

I'll second that.

I came into agonising pain after subconsciously leaning on my left wrist while riding. I went on a 3-week course of Diclofenac tablets from my doctor, which managed to clear the pain very quickly; though the main factors were: a) catching, and stopping myself from leaning on it; and b) writing my bike off and having a forced rest.

Have a look at the strains you're putting on your left hand, as Lee suggests. You may find yourself, though unaware of it, really abusing your hand as you ride.

thanks everyone, looks like a combination of comfy grips and trying to avoid the grip of death should do it then Smile

I quite often just ride one handed resting the left arm down on the tank, lets the blood keep moving nicely, but if you must hold on all the time, just release it for about 30 seconds every few mins and put it down your side etc ...

Same thing happened to me a few months back. After a 300+ mile trip around Wales, I lost the feeling in the end of my right thumb for 2 days...but then my gloves are not the most comfortable in the world, but they do match my leathers Embarassed

Try fitting heavier bar weights to take out the vibes. Or just don't ride so long without a break.
