 |
|
Right, a couple of mates and I were planning on going to the Bulldog Bash not this weekend but the next (10th/ 11th/ 12th), but after realising that this may actually turn out to be one of our last chances to properly get out on the bikes as a group, we decided we'll do a weekend in Wales instead.
But i'm not too sure what a decent route would be to take, any suggestions from those who live in the south/east of Wales or just those who have done this before and can reccommend routes / roads?
The main points i should make are:
I live in Swindon so would approach Wales over the bridge into Newport.
I don't want a route that relies on us having to make fast progress and too many miles each day, mainly because one of my friends will be on the back and i'm not comfortable blatting it as much when his life is in my hands aswell. Plus i want it to be a relaxed weekend which doesn't involve us HAVING to get to certain points at the end of the day etc
Timescale - We will be setting off Friday morning and returning home Sunday evening.
My rough plan would be along the lines of...
set off Friday morning and arrive in Wales in time to grab some lunch. Then another maybe hundred miles until next stop to have a rest (arounf 3-4pm/scenic place?) and then maybe another slightly shorter ride to somewhere we can set up our tents (6-7pmish?) and go to a nearby pub for the evening..
Saturday getup and quite a slow pootle to somewhere another 50-100miles away, ideally along some nice roads allowing us to take in the views etc.
Then basically a couple/few more hours riding that day which will ends us up at another nice spot to camp for the night close to a town/pub. I guess our location at this point would ideally be the farthest point of our trip.
Sunday - Ride back maybe taking a different route, grab some lunch on the way. Maybe divert to visit some reccommended roads? or places? Then a medium paced ride back to Shitdon
You get the idea anyway
So, any suggestions people?
Cheers in advance
(p.s. I guess the route will be weather dependant but lets stay optimistic and base it on nice weather ) ____________________ Past: Katana 50, NSR125RR, FZR600r, CB-1 Present: TRX850 |

Alright mate. Seeing as the response to your post has been um.....lukewarm I'll try and give you a few rough pointers.
Although I cant remember road names etc.. and cant check on a map as I'm abroad at the mo.
When you come into Wales over the bridge you can head along the M4 to the A470, there are lots of good rides up that way, around the Brecon area. Or you can head up the A485 to Monmouth and get off at Usk, then head towards (and beyond) Abergavenny. Once you're in these areas you cant go wrong in my opinion. Or head even further North through Mid Wales towards North Wales - Some gorgeous roads that way.
A bit vague I know, but as I say, I havent got a map in front of me.
Have a good time, hope it doesnt rain !!!! ____________________ Live fast - die....erm...well...old !!! |

Hey mate, thanks for the reply, i only just realised i even had a reply as i kind of gave up on the thread after a couple of days. Thanks though, tis' appreciated.
My weekend in Wales was absolutely awesome in the end, weather was gorgeous, we kind of created a rough route to follow but let oursleves get lost at times. Can't believe how well it worked out, think the best road we rode was the A44 ending around Rhyader (sp?), pure adrenaline for about 30minutes!
I'm going to do a writeup of the trip in T&E when i've got an hour free this week so check it out.
