The majority of guests just leave useless crap and never return.

/me looks at SUPER SHITE SCOOTER boy!!

My suggestion is that you could only permit registered users to start new topics and allow guests to only reply.

What does everyone else think?

but that would also make 100's of accounts that have posted once and just sit there for months.

Disallowing guests is a bad idea.

If you had to register to post then I wouldnt be here. My first couple of posts were made as a guest(as were yours jimbo) and it was only after I had been on for a while that I decided to register. If i'd had to rregister before posting then I really dont think I would of bothered.

You can't dislike guests just because they have annoyed you...as I remember, you (Jimbo) used to post quite a lot as a guest, didn't you? (I could be wrong)

Most boards don't let you post as a guest. All it does is encourage people to hide. I say register if you want to talk and don't if you dont. Inactive accounts on a board this size aren't going to be an issue - I don't know about phpbb, but Vbulletin lets you mass-delete people who haven't logged in for the last x days anyway.

Ok. So why not only allow 'x' amount of posts from a guest before they have to sigh up. Tuff one to do I know. And I bet Korn can't be arsed with it. How could it be done.... Cookies - Can be deleted though.... IP address - would only work with cable users, etc.

Come on brain boxes, any ideas??? Crying or Very sad

Can you do something with PHP Korn, I'm an ASP man myself. Laughing

i belong to another board. it is originally a sports board and has become an all in one type place now. it is a great little community. they even have a porn section only available to registered guests that doesn't show up as porn being veiwed on your puter. that is a kinda teaser to get folks to register. anyway we have trouble with invasions of a sort from other places where a buncha people will come in and bash our members and then they usually run off. once in a while though we get a few people that stay and become one of us. typically we have many more threads moving than you all seem to here. about the guest replying i am sure why, but we don't allow guest to reply they must register first. we too have trouble with inactive accounts and are in the process of getting a new server. it has slowed down drastically in the past month or so. i think the inactive members should be booted for good.

well i have ranted enough and i am one of the useless newbies Laughing

Why would a registered user not be anonomous(sp.)? After all, what do you know about me from my user profile? That Im a student from stafford who like bikes. And how do you know that Im telling the truth? I could quite easily of registered without giving any details.
The only real difference between a guest user and a registered user is that the posts from a reg user always have the same name on them. It wont stop people posting shit.

Anyone remember THE LAWBREAKER from the MCN bulletin boards from about 18 months ago??

I agree Col!! But, if there was a registered user posting crap all the time, we could just delete/bann his account. Ok, so he could just register again. But if we kept deleting his account (if he continues to post crap), he would more than likely get pissed off with having to keep re-registering.

plus it's easier to track crap from registered users and delete it all in one go. Also if it's really offensive you can report them to their ISP

I can heartilly agree with point b.

Since may I should of been paying them £5 a month for the net - so far Ive not paid a single penny. All Ive heard from them is one email, after the first payment wasnt made.

Idiots.
