Hi, im having a few 'gremlins' with my 2000 YZF-R6
its at 18,000 miles in pristine condition however lately a few gremlins have begun to crop up mainly with idle.
If im moving along at speed in any gear and pull the clutch fully in the revs will sometimes drop but only down to around between 2-4K depending on speed. If i do this untill the bike slows right down i.e. brake and revs usually drop right down to where they should be at idle. however they some times remain at a high idle for a few seconds before finally dropping down to the normal idle speed.
This tends to happen when the engine is nice and warm and its a warm day. Also when riding in town with a warm engine (coolant in normal range generally around 80.deg) when coming to a stop when the clutch is pulled in and the bike stops the engine still revs at a around 3K for around 5 seconds the needle blips slightly and the engine ticks over at normal idle, it does this on and off... same thing when its in neutral, if i blip the throttle the response is instant and crisp and the revs drop nice and quick until they hit 3K then its slows down and gradually reaches its idle speed...
Any idea what the problem may be?
When i stripped it down from Winter I changed the plugs over, i noticed that cylinder 1 and 2 were in perfect sync. (nice light brown colour) however i noticed that cylinder 3 and 4 were also in perfect sync with each other but not with 1 and 2... (3&4 were ever so slightly lighter in colour) so my carbs will need to be balanced at some point.
Another thing i have noticed...
If the bike gets a real good thrashing for a short while where the motor is between 9 - 16K (redline) when i come to put the bike away i let the motor idle over for a while to let the block cool down slowly then when i switch it off theres a good amount of burning oil vapour coming out the exhaust which lasts for around 5 minutes... is this normal for the motor to do this?
there are no signs of an oil leak and the comsumption is normal.
just wondering if any knowlagable folks can offer advice..

u need to get a manual to dail in your carbs, sounds like they are out of sync, gauges go for about £30-£40 i've tuned my fzr 400 carbs 20 times near enough real easy to do, my bike did the same as yours till i dialed it in, check the fuel to air mixture is correct and set your idle when bike is walm like half way on gauge, thats what i normally do. tell us how it goes. ____________________ Haz ER-5, innit! |
