police can already pull you if you're in a group, even if you aren't racing for "riding in the spirit of competition" if you don't have a nominated leader.

Unsure of the penalty though.

Isn't that only in the Durham area? Was only just recently introduced if I remember correctly.

"Riding in the spirit of competition"????? What a crock of shit, what the hell else will they come up with? Possession of a pretty helmet design? Provocatively tight leathers???

I live on Ontario where this law is being enacted. It's designed to combat street racing, which has reached epic and lethal proportions in the larger cities like Toronto and Vancouver. If your doing 50 Km/h or more over the speed limit a police officer, at his discretion can charge you with racing, which brings on the impounding of the vehicle and the heavy fine. The key word is discretion. If your flying along a highway at 50 over by yourself, the officer may lower the amount to 49 over on the ticket to avoid the stiff penalty. If your flying along in a pack of riders at 70 over however, he may nail you with the racing charge. Again, discretion is the key word. I'm not worried about it at all, there's no need for me to travel at those velocities, and if I wanted to, there's a race track about 3 hours away..

Being from Finland, that doesn't look too draconian to me, apart from the fact that no evidence is required. I quite like our laws, where the fine is dependent on the earnings.

Reading that, the only thing that would really worry me is what evidence is required. If it's a video camera from a cop car, OK fair cop but if it's just the word of the policeman it could be a bit worrying.
