And anyone else for that matter. My uncle has offered me his '86 KLR250 for £150. Just needs a new silencer (quoted £150 from Chase Superbikes in Cannock).

Should I have it for a bit of winter fun? Advise on anything KLR related please. If it's anything like my old KMX125, it'll make a great wheelie machine!! Laughing

YES

if you don't want I'll take it for £150 Very Happy

If everything else is fine definatley worth it.

Some things about the klr:
It's not an off road bike, however much it looks like it.
It weighs 160kg dry, so will be a bit of a handfull for smaller/lighter people... being 14st I didn't have any significant problems. Once you get going you don't notice the weight though.
It probably won't wheelie like a kmx, but will wheelie off the throttle when you get used to it.
Front brakes are shit (well, mine were).
You can't get into *too* licence-losing speeds (ie <95) because of the windblast and a speed-wobble.
It's more comfortable than your average trailie, but watch out for the vibrations on long journeys due to the 650 single.

it is *very* different

riding a bandit 12 after it made the bandit feel like a 125!

The biggest thing going from the klr to the nsr (when the clutch cable broke) was that the nsr bars were so much narrower, made turning feel completley different at first.

Cheers mate. I'm now seriously considering it. Laughing It has been converted to a trials/road bike. It's not taxed or M.o.T'd coz my uncle doesn't use it anymore.

Yeah, I'll use it on the road. But Cannock Chase is near to me, so I expect I'll take it over there for some serious off road action!! Laughing

>>serious off road action!!<<
ah...

maybe it isn't right for you then.

Rember it weighs 160kg dry... that's only 12kg less than my zx6 and probably getting near 200kg wet! Also the normal road tyres it's shod with aren't up to much at all offroad.
It will do the occasional 'green lane', but I wouldn't reccomend regular off road use.
If you stick some decent rubber on it'll probably be a bit better, but something like a kmx125 would probably be faster and more fun (especially when you come to pick it up, if you're not that big)

It's not exactly a 'mad' ride, more of a reasonable winter hack/town bike, but still an improvemnet on a NSR.
