If I get a job I'm after it will mean 150 miles a day.

750 miles a week, 3000 a month, 36000 a year. That's not including any 'me' miles. I will be after a new bike towards the end of winter. I would like it to be a CBR600 with something like 10-12k and something like 3 years old. I wonder how a CBR600 will cope with 72000 miles in 2 years?

Out of interest how many miles has your bike clocked?

It is going to cost a fortune in petrol, why not move closer to the new job or get a run about car.

Not as fun i know, but when your felling a little under the wether or had a one two many the night before or even if its snowing a car is an option. Rolling Eyes

It will cost just over a tenner a day on the bike that I have at the moment which is a ZR-7s, which I didn't think was too bad, considering a train would cost £17.00 and take 2 1/2 hours, the bike takes about an hour and a quarter.

I love where I live, I wouldn't move for the sake of a job. I think my car would rinse the fuel big-time and being stuck in traffic...Grrrrr.

the NTV 67K probably closer to 130K,

but a CBR will shag it , you'll need to do valves every 16K thats every 4-6 ,months, a duevillie? , kind of boring reliable etc, but shaft drive so no chain lube/cleaning good MPG and fairly comfy.

EDIT I used to do 145 miles a day , it was amusing for the first few weeks , then it got annoying and horrible , even though my route was incredibly twisty, you'd get into work tired from concentrating so hard and the nutter image faded away to daft git, this of course was mid winter on an unfaired bike.

Time is the main factor - trust me.

I work 45 miles away from home and, when taking the train, I have to get up at 6am and spend 2 hours travelling each way; costing £200 a month. I used to get home at 18:30, and had to be in bed by about 22:00 ready for the next day.

On the bike, I spend a little less money (and a lot less when I used the CG), but get to wake up at 7:15 (to be in work at 8:30), and am home by 17:30. I save over 2 hours every day just by using the bike, and it's a hell of a lot more fun.

A boring bike by a lot of people's standards, but you can't beat a Fazer 600 for commuting, I have done about 28000 miles on mine in 9 months. It has had 1 oil change, and is now on it's 2nd chain from new.
It is almost maintenance free and I also do a lot of me miles on it, I have done 2500 miles in 3 weeks for pleasure, everyone of them was fun!!

I've just finished working in Bradford, been there for about three months, I have to go in the 4X4 due to the tools i need to take every day etc. It's about 100 miles round trip and involves M62 and M606. Both very boaring roads, strugle to stay awake most mornings. Don't think I would want to do it every day on the bike.

As for your other question, my CBR600 has just over 28k on the clock, runs sweet, purrs like a kitten Very Happy

100 miles a day, five days a week during term time on a bandit 600.

fit a scottoiler to what ever you decide on, makes your chain last soooo much longer and reduces the amount of toothbrushing out crap ( unless you go for a shaft driven beast).... oh and a rear hugger and fender extenda wouldnt go a miss for that lovely salt slush!

a few mates recommended the VFR to me as a decent tourer with a bit of poke, but personally i like the raw freezing winds of a naked bike in winter ( brrrrrr) Shifty

75k on my old GPX750R.

At this sort of mileage the suspension will be pretty worn out - not just the forks and shock losing their damping, but fork bushes and rear suspension forks/bearings get worn out as well.

That said, japanese engines are tough. If you're planning on doing mega miles, you might as well start off buying a high mileage bike and take it round the clock.

I was doing at least 600 miles a week on my old GPZ500s, 500 of which was commuting.

You will find the lack of energy/time to do stuff such as chain, checking tyre pressures and even filling up with petrol every day a chore. They sound simple enough but it soon gets frustrating.

Engine stuff is usually fine apart from oil changes, I did it once a month, but chassis components like bearings etc will start to wear and go out quickly, which is a pain to change.

Get something with shaft drive as you wont be able to go any quicker on a brand new sports bike then you would a bloaty older BMW, especially in winter.

Well I hope that the job in question is worth travelling for. Have you considered how much of 'your time' will be spent commuting because it is going to be a lot. I have a half hour commute each morning and then again each evening and that drives me up the wall. Plus you need to take into consideration the costs involved in commuting such a long way, ie you might be better off looking for a job closer to home.
