OMG cant believe this.

My wife started her bike lessons in march and completed her CBT, and did a few days on the schools CG125's (on the roads etc) they were ready to book her for her test but unfortunately she broke her finger and was unable to ride for quite a long time.

anyway shes been riding her bike (on L's) for the last 4-6 weeks (getting her finger stronger)and now phoned back the riding school to complete her training. they told her they would book her in for her test within the next week and then have a few intense training in between..

anyway got a phone call yesterday from the riding school, she cant do it!

after all this time the DVLA informed them (when they went to book her test) that she doesnt have motorcycle entitlement on her license!!! yep, the provisional license which are all supposed to come with motorcycle entitlement (according to the nice lady on the phone from DVLA) has no entitlement.

so to summarise, the riding school has screwed up as they did her cbt on a cg125 (although she has moped on licence so cbt is still valid), they have given her 30 hours of road riding on a cg, and about 5 hours on an er5. they didnt notice this 'error' and thus have been encouraging my wife to ride as much as possible between lessons... to which we discovered its all completely illegal.

anyway DVLA told me to fill out a D1 and send back licence and it will all be added free (watch them say they cant do it as i havent included the correct fee!!!)

so this is a word of warning to all you guys riding on L's with a provisional (with more than 50cc), check your license and make sure you have the A on it, otherwise if something does happen it will be your fault!!
obviously if you have done your cbt on a 50cc at 16 this can be done with the P entitlement so the test centre may have checked your license and all is fine, but when you get to 17 and buy that aprilia rs you may be riding illegally!!!

Ouch sorry to hear dude,

As far as I know when I got my provvie the form actually has a tickbox for this.

Something like to add motorcycle entitlement tick this box.

Hope she gets it sorted.

I never applied for provisional for bikes.

But apparently my full car license was okay.

Can your wife drive?

Yeah the full car licence is a provisional bike licence, if you check the aper bit it will have the A on it by default, although as with all things DVLA worth asking them on the phone to be sure!
