Need the bike to get to work tomorrow, about a 30 mile round trip and then 10 miles to garage next Tuesday (bike won't be in use over weekend). Rear tyre is a Pirelli Diablo on an R6. Will be taking it easy, but wanted to know if it'll last...

Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

Wouldn't even ride it to a bike shop a mile from my house. You need to take the wheel off and take it to the tyre place.

Should be OK if you keep swerving left and right, there's loads of tread left on the sides.

Big fine if you get stopped through.

Mate of mine rode a tyre in a similar state from the Forth road bridge to the tyre shop in Creiff last weekend (just over 30 miles). He made it. Take it REALLY easy, no sharp throttle opening or braking, expect it to deflate at any time.

DISCLAIMER: It is illegal to ride with a tyre like that and if you get done for it, don't be surprised when books get thrown. 2 points and a fine last time I looked.

When the wires are poking its not looking good.

Mate of mine had the same thing, left it in a garage n got a lift home.

Then someone else rode it 10 miles to be repaired.

Very risky, one catseye and its goodbye.

30 miles is really, really not a good idea Laughing

If you keep the bike leaning onto the side with tread then youll be fine. But seriously not a good idea.

There's shit loads of tread left on it, except for that tiny little bit where the threads are showing but what do you think black duct tape is for? Cover that up and I say you're good to go for another few hundred miles. Thumbs Up

It might last it might not, hopefully for you it wont deflate and put you into a guard rail. Neutral I think knowing that you know its like that the choice is relatively simple.

be careful, I had more tread than that, had a blow-out on motorway, luckily I stayed vertical and managed to get to hard shoulder. It is not worth the risk!

Not sure if bikes and cars are different, but cars are 3 points per tyre plus up to £1000 fine per tyre. They dont often hand out the max fines, but they might make an exception for the one in the OP!

I had a tyre that got to that stage, was going to use it for a bit before getting a new one... fortunately (in hindsight) it managed to deflate by itself one night, thus forcing me to replace it Laughing

They can go from just off the wear bar to that in not very long at all. There is very little rubber left at that point and if you get enthusiastic, it overheats and starts shedding big lumps of rubber. I have seen a lot of tyres like that.

Apparently the rubber used to lay up the plies is different from the actual tread surface of the tyre, hence almost instant shreddage when they're extremely worn.
