Looking at buying a new bike, 2006 yamaha r1 in black.

one thing though and i was hoping someone can give us some advice.

Its got finance owing on it, pretty much the sale price is what is outstanding.

The fella selling it seems like a genuine chap that needs to get rid to pay it off.

How do i approach this, he did say its on black horse finance, not HP. Does that mean he has a loan? or does the bike belong to the finance company until its paid off?

If i was to go buy this off him which i really do because the bike is a beaut, how would i go about this and not get stung later on?

cheers in advance for any advice you can give

As genuine as the guy seems I would walk away unless it is a personal loan to him other than finance on the bike.
You could have the bike checked and see if it has any finance on it organisations like the AA or RAC can do it it costs but it could save you having the bike snatched off you to repay his loan after he has disappered with your cash

yeh i was wondering that myself, if its a personal loan then i will buy it, if its on HP then i will walk away.

So a HPI check will show if its on finance?

I know this won't help you but it might make you feel better about yourself.

Your GSXR is officially sex on two wheels.

you need to do a HPI check, to see if there is outstanding finace secured on the bike

or you could just take his word for it that its an unsecured loan

your choice

https://www.onesoon.co.uk/textcheck/ Worth a try? Not sure on what info it'll have on finance, but I did it for my bike and it gave me some history.

from personal experience, Black Horse finances motorcycle purchases using personal loans, not HP, but the owner of the bike is supposed to settle the outstanding amount when the bike is sold.

I personally would not buy the bike if it is a private sale as you never know if he will use the money you pay for the bike to settle the loan.

The usual way to do this would be for him to pay off the finance over the phone while you are there in person.

You could even offer to pay the balance of the finance yourself and give him anything left over - that way you can be sure it's settled.

Why not just buy a bike without the hassle of outstanding finance? Can't be a shortage of Black 2006 R1's for sale?

Black horse is HP, I used them for both my bike and my car. It would probably be best if you dealt with them direct, as if you pay him the outstanding finance there's no guarantee he will clear the debt.

They don't do the finance check for £3. They recommend autocheck from Experian ( @ £19.99) if you need a finance check too.

its cheap, he obviously needs the money. I will hpi to see if anyone finance is due on the VRM/VIN. if nothing is owed on the bike then im guessing its a personal loan.

its up for £6600, i offered him £5900.

i agree with G, either that or get the finance put into your name and give him the extra (if there is any) and then pay off the finance yourself!
