Hi

Just lobbed a new hard disk into my machine. This is a 500gb SATA disk to be used while I do some video editing, and is not the primary disk.

There is already a 300gb SATA primary disk in there and a smaller 200GB IDE disk (almost full).

Eventually managed to get it together (couldn't find fdisk, and sdisk that claims to be free refused to do anything as it was a demo version).

Seems to work except it refuses to let me copy any large files to it. For example I have a ~7gb avi file from Studio 9 (video editing software I was using), and if I try and copy that to the 500gb disk it tells me there is not enough space, yet is quite happy to allow me to copy it to the ~100gb left on my C drive. Similarly if I start to copy over ~100gb of images the 500gb disk doesn't complain.

Any ideas?

All the best

Keith

Have you formatted it as Fat32? I believe that has a maximum files size as 4gb, you might want to check and reformat it to NTFS

EDIT: Just as point as well, if you're running XP you don't have to go into DOS and run FDISK like yesteryear. New volumes can be formatted by going into Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management and you can do it all from there Thumbs Up

Sorry if you already knew that, it's just I meet a lot of people who don't know Thumbs Up

Hi

Forcing a reformat now as NTFS. The FAT issue could be correct.

Cheers.

All the best

Ahh. I think I see the problem. I'm no expert but I think you need to plug stuff into it as well.

Hi

Well it is now working. Silly amount of storage really (makes it 1tb of internal disk space, and about half as much again on USB external drives).

All the best
