More info please
Whats the card?
What type of slot is it in?
What drivers are you using for it?
Have you recently changed drivers?
Is it overclocked?
Is the card's heat sink burning hot?
When does the garbaged screen kick in? In the bios the second you turn it on? When you get the windows loading splash screen? Or when you get into windows itself?
As for the problem, its bad data in the video memory, either the ram on the video card is knackered, its simply running too hot to run stable, too fast to run stable or its getting fed bad data in the first place.
Quicky things to check, if the machine is AGP, earth yourself briefly, unscrew the card and completely remove it, blow into the socket to clear any dust and then firmly reseat the card, make sure its sitting in the slot correctly.
If the card is overclocked, set it back to stock settings, check the card's temperatures if it has thermal monitoring software, carefully (Some cards can run close to 100c at the core, with heatsinks hitting 70 sometimes) touch a corner of the heatsink to feel if thats getting hot. Check to see if the card's cooler is firmly attached to the card, it shouldn't have any play whatsoever. Check to see if the card's cooling fan is spinning freely (If it has one of course).
If you recently updated drivers, try using XP's driver rollback in device manager.
Otherwise you may simply be looking at a replacement card, if its a from a bigger company you may be able to RMA it. ____________________ 2010 Triumph 1050 Sprint ST |
