...and I can't believe so many bikers on here hate them, this is my first car (Seat Ibiza 1.4 S) and it's not exactly a Ferrari but I absolutely love it, okay it's no where near as fun as riding bikes in terms of the thrill you get and traffic is a bugger but you can still have fun driving cars (admitedly you have to drive fast otherwise it feels like you're riding the bus being sat inside it). Anyway more to the point how many guys on here actually enjoy driving cars as well as riding motorbikes?

I could come up with an impressive list of BCF members who used to hate cars... until they learned to drive.

I enjoy driving cars, but not as much as i used to before i started riding. In the past ive had a few 205 gti's (one with an mi16 motor pushing out about 200 bhp), a nissan 200sx, a bmw 325i sport and a few others. Im lucky enough to drive a lot of higher end cars at work, today for instance i had a nice 35 mile run in an audi tt v6, yesterday i 'tried' out a honda s2000.... So yeah, i still enjoy driving cars, but i definatly prefer bikes Thumbs Up

I quite liked my old bosses Honda Civic type R it was modded ie had everythiung but the seats ripped out and a chavvy end can which was so loud, I used to utterly rag that car to bits and make it scream in agony (tyres/engine) I was tasked to bring the staff home and I drove it so hard around deserted Plymouth streets and all the way up to Torpoint for a late delivery , I recall making 2 women cry while I was driving it once.

less so with my own cars I've erm owned namely cus they have all been low powered fairly crap cars.

I think both are great depending on what your doing and what you want.

I like the fact I can put my boot down on my 3.0 RWD car and control it as it goes everywhere, and if I do do anything wrong, I'm only going to end up with a dent rather than a broken neck (not allways, but generally)

But, running a big engine costs a fortune, as does tax and insurance.

So, for generally pootling around, with no real aim, the bike is much better, plus it's more fun when you have no aim in what you are doing.

It's nice to have the car if I'm driving lots of people, or carrying lots of luggage though.

I love both equally.

I enjoy driving cars, but then I don't generally like modern cars all that much so drive old ones. When it's peeing it down with rain or when I need to transport something big I'm pretty glad that my bike isn't my only transport.

If you really want to have fun in a car it's best to get something with rear-wheel drive. My Morris Minor is pretty gutless but because it has skinny tyres and RWD is great fun. Getting the back end out and drifting through corners is nice and easy! Take a look at this video.

So, yes, cars are fun but in a completely different way to bikes. Most modern cars are frankly just so dull.

I hate driving, I've got a car, but my insurance is so expensive that I can't afford it.

Just thought I'd let you know, I can drive, but choose not to. Wink

I was into cars when I was kid rather than bikes, though I rode for 1.5years before getting a car.

I've never said cars were crap though, drive mine way more than I ride, it's fast, can be fun and is warm and has music and doesn't require halfhour of unchaining and kitting up in the morning. Luckily can afford a bike and a car so best of both worlds.

It's true, most of the people that slag off "cagers" all the time are those that don't actually have a car licence or seem to think they get brownie points for riding in snow or pissing rain and stacking their bike in the process or gaining frostbitten extremeties because it makes them a "real biker".

I love pretty much anything that combines wheels and an engine.

I'd love a car with performance to match my bike, but as i don't have £20K+ sitting in the bank it ain't never gonna happen!

So, my theory is i have a small cheap car that is fun to drive, i focus more on handling and the enjoyment derived from exploiting/abusing it than outright power.

I get paid a cash allowance by my work to use my car for business and they have conditions on what sort of car you can have i.e no older than 5 years, 4 seater, 2.0l petrol engine(or 2.5l diesel) max etc.

Since last week i've become Mr Suzuki Brand Loyalty as i now have a Suzuki car and bike - bought a Swift Sport. It only makes about 125bhp (which is around what my bike makes!!!) but the ride on it is hillarious - it's like a little go-kart, reminiscent of the 'old' mini or the original Gti (the MK1 Golf).

Well, here they both are:

I've driven cars for over 11 years, now I only have a bike.

Could sell my bike and get a car - but I soooo won't. If I could afford a car as well as a bike, I would.

But a bike is so far ahead in terms of fun, freedom and a feeling of being speshul that the practicality of a car doesn't even come near.

Besides, chicks dig bikes Razz

I don't ride yet, will be doing my CBT and DAS soon though, but I've been driving for nearly five years. I love it. I've owned the same 1998 1.3 Fiesta all that time, only 60bhp but you can use all of it, which is rarely possible in most modern powerful cars. Not a lot of power, skinny tyres, no power steering, electric nothing, and it's great fun.

I've also been lucky enough to drive race prepared Mazda MX-5s and Mini Coopers, as a year and a bit ago I did the British Racing Scholarship and got to the final against a bunch of people who'd been karting since they were eight years old. Nothing makes a road car feel slow and useless like a racer on slicks...

Incidentally I decided to do my motorcycle licence as the alternative to trading in my Fiesta for a Porsche 944 in perfect condition. I reasoned that biking would be even more fun Very Happy

A car license is a must for lots of jobs, so you should learn to drive.

As a family we own 1 car and 2 bikes, thus the wife has the car every day and i'm on the bike in all weathers.

If it ever snows/ice then the wife has to walk and I go in the car.

I've been a driver for 8 years and a biker for about 10 months. For me personally I really enjoy both. They each have their time and place.

On the weekend I nipped down to London for a mates engagement do. I took the car as it cruises nicer than the bike, is more economical, is really comfortable (lovely seats, air con), and I can listen to the footy/music... The miles are demolished in comfort and if anyone recalls the weather was absolutely awful.

For work I take the bike because I don't like waiting in queues, another bonus is if I have a crap day I can go for a blast after work to clear the head.

I am a Motorist, among so many other things.

I drive a pick up truck with an on the run switchable drive system, 420nm of torque at 2000rpm. Not fun? yeah right.

As much as i love bikes, when you use it for everything it does start to make you sick of riding, for me anyway.
I want to be able to actually pop down the shops without taking off my chains & putting on my gear..
I'd appreciate a bike much more if i had a car aswell, but for now i'm getting a car.

With how the weathers been i don't really fancy this winter on a bike.

Had a car since i was 17, spent those early years banging the missus in it (ah those were the days) Crying or Very sad and generally racing anything that moved. My missus uses my car now, yet i pay the insurance hmmm. I'd be lieng if i said i did 20 miles in the car in a week, but it does come in handy at times.
I dont think people on here hate cars, they just see the car that almost wiped them out rather than the moron at the wheel. Ive seen morons on bikes aswell Laughing

I've driven cars longer than bikes, but don't really class it as fun anymore.. most my driving is really for business..

Got to have a grin factor attached to it.. and motorbikes just do it for me all the time. Speed..freedom..the wind through your helmet Smile

....The only car which did it for me was when a friend let me drive his Ferrari 360 spyder Very Happy ..That was something!

I must admit i was one of those ppl who hated cars before i got my license Confused

Now I've got my license and a car to use i sort of enjoy it. The smaller the car the more enjoyable i find them. For example i love driving my sisters little cinquecento. You really have to hammer it to get it to go any speed. And it sort of reminds me of a dodgem car. (I dont bump into things though!)

On the other hand my dads Rover 25, which is slightly faster, i dont find interesting at all. Speed does not feel the same when your strapped into a (relatively) safe tin can.

What i am finding nice is having a CD player and a roof when it rains. Thats not to say im a fair weather biker, i've ridden in all kinds of weather and don't intend to stop anytime soon.

Cheers,
Shaun.

Its usually the teenagers that cant afford to run both so just have a bike and call themselves true bikers.
Until they finally learn to drive, get a car and change their opinion. Wink

Haven't really had the choice of riding a bike for the last couple of months, been driving a 1.4 Punto hire car. It's only got 2,000 miles on the clock so it's virtually brand new. On the other hand, my late bike was 8 years old and had 26k on the clock.

The car's got air conditioning, power steering, a CD player, voice activation, mobile phone connectivity, it carries 5 people, will do 60 to the gallon, and I could drive all day in comfort. The bike had none of that, but I still preferred it.

I would like to have both, so I can pick and choose. Until I can afford that (and until my arm is in a servicable state) I can only choose one, and right now I can't choose at all. It's pretty horrible.

I was flicking through a supercar dealer website today looking at Ferraris and Lamborghinis, and it got me thinking. I haven't ever driven a really fast car, I've driven nothing over 1.6 litres, never gone over 110mph in one, and I've never driven a car that handles well, since they've all been front wheel drive hatchbacks. But still, in my admittedly uninformed opinion, the impression I get from cars is that you're removed from the road, everything is softened. On a long journey down motorways that's definitely a good thing, it makes it a lot easier. But for outright fun, I reckon you can't beat a bike.

I like a car for all things practical and not getting wet, which actually doesnt bother me that much but can be annoying. Shopping is easier with a car. More fun with a bike Laughing.

With riding a bike there is still something I cant quite put my finger on. The whole experience is something I havent felt driving a car. A car can be fun and fast, if you feel like spending a few hundred grand, but every time I ride my bike I just think 'awesome, this is ace'. Probably something to do with almost basically flying around everywhere. The feeling, for me at least, is pretty much un matched and although cars have there place they dont beat the bike.

There is a reason most cage drivers dont just drive for the fun of it.

I got a car before I ever learned to ride bikes, but driving has never really held all that much enjoyment for me. It's boring and frustrating.

I have driven some nice cars, and did enjoy them to some extent, but I'd rather just 'use' a car.

Having said that, I like my van - useful for carrying stuff in, and I can sleep in the back too Very Happy

I'm still learning to drive, so my opinion hasn't yet truly been formed; but so far I'm pretty bored of cars. It's more than likely because I'm stuck in a Micra with someone telling me what to do, though.
