ok, well for about the past week (probably longer but i only found it last week) i've had an inch long, 4mm wide, gash in my exhaust just under my radiator. got to work today, motorbike sounded louder, checked the gash, and its turned into a square shape hole a bit bigger than a 2p.

i have my bike booked in on the 12th of october, gonna ring tomorrow to see if i can get it in any earlier but there service dept. is closed today so i cant do it today.

is there any way what so ever of covering the hole with something for the time being till i can get my bike to the garage?

You can get high temperature tape from m'cycle shops, which are designed to temporarily repair the exhaust...

hmmm.... you can get some *metal glue* style stuff, you could glue the afformentioned 2p over it... or some tin foil etc with (not plsatic covered) wire to tie it on.
Alternativly just leave it... I rode my cg and my nsr with exhausts split at the header pipes/expansion chamber join to the silencer. Didn't do anything significantly bad to them.

What bike btw?

that shows

I don't recommend putting anything over the hole, a 2pence piece could end up falling inside the pipe and you really don't want that. Anything plastic will most likely just melt or leave a bad mess everywhere, it also is unlikely to make it all that much quieter.

I rode my TZR with downpipes that looked like swiss cheese for about a month, just don't rev the bollocks off it and no one will complain.

Yep, get it welded properly and it should last a good 6-8months further.

To be honest you won't notice any difference in power really on a 125 2-stroke, I mean the benefit of full race systems on 125s is pretty much non existant unless you want to get an extra 4mph top speed.

i think a bigger bike is a much better investment than a full race system

well the bike is a fk load loader since it has the hole in it. the power is slightly better gaining about 2-3mph per gear taking me upto about 83mph in a straight line (restricted NSR you see)

Sounds like my problem I had a few weeks back. Large hole in expansion chamber, near the rad. I tried to use gungum as a temporary repair...trouble is the hole was next to the raised welds, so I couldnt get the hole sealed properly...so it blew a hole in the gungum Embarassed

Bike was sluggish (de-restricted nsr) and sounded very very bad (or good Very Happy depends how you look at it). Going to London from Kent it gave me a headache...

In the end I got a s/hand exhaust and binned the holey one.

How about another sensible solution.

Hop down to Halfords get some of Tinny's magic mesh and use it for it's intended purpose. Get some metalite (high temp) and fill itin like polyfilla.

Well, a sheet of meshing is only a few quid, and the stuff that Ann mentoned can't be *that* expensive...it just means that you'll have to cut down your alcohol consumption...for a day Very Happy
