not as stupid as i sound i hope, does my rxs 100 need a decent battery to start or is it bypassed straight to the coil?

basically after being layed up for almost a year the battery is flat, it takes alot of kicking to get it into life but once theres a little bit of power in the battery its fine (the dash lights come on when the ignition is turned on)

I`ve got an RXS100 that I don`t use, so the battery was tatered

It played havoc with the lights and the indicators

I put a new battery on and everything was happy again

Nope. The battery forms part of the circuit. When you kick it over the generator spins and sends a tiny bit of current into the battery. At the same time the ignition electronics, coil, and CDI take power out of the battery to do their thing and make a spark.

The best way to check if a battery is working is to take it off the bike and to put it onto a trickle charger. If, after a few hours, the battery gets hot, then it's mullered.

Do this in a ventilated area because the battery might give off tons of hydrogen, which is very explosive.

well yeah. If the battery's in shit state then the circuit's continuity is broken. You always need a tiny bit of charge to get it to start. Sometimes all the current drains of it and the lead plates get attacked by the acid. This is called a deep discharge.

It would be near-on impossible to start, because the coil/cdi would be trying to take more current out than what you were putting it in by using the kickstart.

Thumbs Up
