My brake light was staying on, i managed to trace the fault to the rear brake switch. In order to remove it i had to unscrew it from the brake master cylinder, however when i did it some brake fluid came out.

Which means that know i have no brakes! I'm guessing all i need to do is refill the master cylinder, i just wasn't sure how to do it so that is what i'm asking.

Thanks

Hi

I presume it is a hydraulic switch, built into the banjo bolt (fairly common on European bikes). If so then removing that you have allowed air into the system and you will need to bleed it through.

The banjo on the master cylinder is often a pretty high point on the system, and as air rises to the highest points you cannot just fill it up and expect the air to get to the reserviour.

All the best

Keith

Hi,

Do i just need to bleed the brakes then?

And how much do you think a garage would charge to do it? the bike is being sold Saturday, so i may not have the time to do it.

Hi

Almost certainly you just need to bleed the brakes. On some bikes it is a 5 minute job, on others it can be a real pain (eg, air rises to the top, yet on some bike the bleed nipple is on the bottom of the caliper which makes it very difficult to bleed).

Without having a look at the bike I cannot say, but by the time that have removed bodywork to get at the reserviour, etc expect it to be half an hour to an hours labour as long as nothing goes wrong.

All the best

Keith
