Hi Guys,

Been looking at this bike for a while - what do you reacon, is it the right price?

Its done 8000 miles, 52 plate, from a dealer for £3199. so hopefully get for £3000. Is this still too much?

Thanks for your help,

Jon

As a 52 reg that should be the 636 I believe. However it still doesn't offer much more of a J1, which can be got from around £1500.

For the same functionality, I'd definitely be saving my money.

As an idea, I got my J2 (01) model for £3750. This was when it was under a year old with similar miles, so I'd expect to be paying a lot less for one now.

If you think it's too much to pay for that particular bike then tell the dealer so. If you think it's too much, likelihood is that everyone else has who's viewed it does too, and it will sit there forever.

You'd be surprised how much profit can be in a sportsbike. If the dealer's having a slow month, rent's due etc etc, you could get quite a bit knocked off.

When I bought my ZX7R, the dealer had only had it in for a week and I got £400 knocked off within 10 mins of "Umming and Ahhing". Work out what the maximum you are prepared to pay is and head towards the door if they won't get near it. Body language can be quite persuasive.

Remember though, you can't compare private prices to dealer prices. I like a bit of reassurance that if it all goes tits up within the first 3 months or so I can take it back!

Good Luck. Thumbs Up

Fine if it's a good dealer. Not so good when you have to take the dealer to court to make them pay up.

Especially when buying privately could see you with two similar bikes for the list price.
The 'warranties' a lot of dealers use can be bought for private sales too, often.

Personally I've seen a lot more dodgy bikes in dealers; but then there are some dealers I'd be happy to spend money at if I had enough to not worry about paying over the odds.

I'd be spending no more than £2K on a supersports. You can buy a whole lot of supersports for £2K if you look for one that isn't well shagged or tracked.

And dealer? are you mad sunshine. Look at the private ads.

Look https://www.visordown.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=42

Look a long url

etc etc

Sorry, perhaps phrased that incorrectly. Aftermarket warranties are all a load of bollocks. What I mean is, if you are buying from a reputable dealer, most will help you out if there is a problem.

But, the crux of it is, if you are buying from a dealer they have certain legal responsibilities. They can't sell something not fit for purpose with no reprisal. I definitely wouldn't pay extra for an aftermarket warranty, even those offered by people like RAC.

I bought a bike privately 2 weeks ago and it's perfect (And a bargain, a 2001 DRZ400 in immaculate condition, 1400 miles £1500.) I'm certainly not saying don't buy private, I'm just saying don't be afraid of a dealers "Screen" price. A bargain is still possible from a dealer if you haggle. (Except DK)

That is a J2 ZX6R so is heftily overpriced. Must have been old stock when it was new.

Its the 599cc version, you could get one for 2K in just as good condition.

I don't know anything about ZX6R's and what model is what and the kind of price they should be commanding but reading the responses on here it would seem that the bike in question isn't a bargain in the slightest.

Make sure you check out some other ones that are exactly the same model and see what prices they are commanding and also take a look around to see what other ZX6R's you can get for that kind of money.

If the dealer is willing to drop his price to make it good deal and its a good clean straight bike then go for it, but don't pay over the odds for something that you could get from elsewhere. There is always a better deal somewhere else you know - its just a case of finding it. Thumbs Up
