Ay up!! I am needing to replace my rear tyre soon as i have nearly killed mine.

I commute to work everyday doing a lot of straight line riding. I bought a Bridgestone BT021 for the last one and it has lasted about 5000 miles. Is this about the life i will get out of a tyre and does anyone know of any harder longer lasting sports touring tyres? The front one doesnt need replacing yet and that is also a BT021.

Most appreciated,

Will

5000 miles isn't too bad. It all depends on how someone rides, some people on the same bike could manage maybe 2000 miles more, others 1000 less.
The front tyre will last longer as it hasn't got the power going through it. Normaly a front will last 2 rears.

I'm currently running on Michelin pilot roads (98 thundercat) and at 2000 miles the rear has hardly any wear on it and they have been good in the wet and dry,it might be worth considering them if you need a pair of tyres as i don't think anyone would recommend running different manufacturers back and front.though i could be wrong!

yeah i been thinking of the michelin's. the rubber on the outside is softer it would probably wear better than one that is just the same all the way round. Soddin expencive to change the pair though, its crap. might get another BT021, do another 5 thousand miles then change the pair to michelins.
What are metzeler tyres like? anyone reckon they could stand up the the big 2???

Hehe, beat ya! I had 3 Bacon Cheese & Egg for Breakie. High Lane oatcakes as well, they are the best!! Surprised

Think we've gone a little of topic in this thread? Whistle

Afriad I couldn't help with a suggestion of long lasting tyres. I have BT014s and the rear lasts about 1000 - 2000 miles.

I don't know where you buy your's from but you would do well to get a quote from Hot Lane Tyres, I go there about once a month!

get thee some BT45s mine last 15000 miles and I am utterly harsh on them, though admittedly for weekend hoons I am on the edges and also it has rained alot this year = less grip = less wear = longer lasting.

Where abouts that then?

I'm a 5 minute blast up the A50 towards Derby from Uttoxeter.

As to tyres, if your front is in good nick, get another rear, then by the time the rear runs out again, the front should be ready. I've just had to do the same with BT020's with a new rear and old front, then will be changing to Pilot Roads or Z6's (Also tempted by the BT021's).

I think the Z6's have a slightly better reputation that the 020's and 021's, but then you have the Pilot Roads getting all the best reveiws and comments lately.

They're kinda ranked like this (In my opinion):

1. Pilot Roads
2. Z6's
3. 021's
4. 020's

Thumbs Up to the Pilot Road II's.

I've got one on the back, and it isn't being flatspotted by my fairly straight line commute, and has always kept me happy and confident through the turns (even in some truly crappy weather).

I've done a couple of thousand miles, I think, and don't appear to have even dented it.
