So after recently low-siding my bike in what can only be described as poor judgement around a corner on my part, my brother and I began to fix the—what we thought to only be minor cosmetic—damage, only to find out the damned thing wouldn't start.
Trying to start up the engine, we'd hear the click, and hear the starter motor get stuck. So we, naturally, whacked her into gear and rocked her a bit. No dice.
So then we spent half an afternoon taking parts off to get to the starter motor. We took it out, took it apart, and cleaned it. I suspected there'd be oil or something inside, but nada. Cleaned it anyway, and stuck it back in the bike. Still nothing.
Rocked it back and forth some more, and took the alternator off so we could turn the engine by hand and 'free it up'. Still nothing.
So we gave up for today, and rolled her back into the garage, ready to come here and read more.
Then we decided to give her one last try. And BAM: the starter motor was turning the engine. Took a while to start up, and one cylinder wasn't firing; but easily fixed.
It's pretty frustrating spending hours trouble-shooting, only to have the bike seemingly sort itself out; but I guess I've learned a fair bit more about mechanics in the process.
Any (semi)-related stories of such you've experienced? |

I know the feeling of an annoying bike to start. Well done on keeping at it. ____________________ ~Sahf East Winnah~
