Just got my renewal through for my car. 30% up on last year. wtf??
I'm a year older, got an extra years ncb, no points. I've owned the same car for 4 years yet they want an extra £100. I've just tried ringing them but as per usual theres no one available. Wankers. No wonder theres so many unisured drivers on the roads.

Has it not gone up due to your accident at work? As it would need declaring to the DVLA and insurance companies.

Anything related to your eye problem?.

But I think such quotes rely upon complacency more than anything else far too many people don't switch and therefore let them get away with it.

Its not gone up due to my accident as they aren't aware of that. If I tell them about my eye they'll screw me senseless. I spoke to my consultant about driving and she says I dont need to tell them as I have perfect vision in my good eye. If I tell the dvla then the outcome will depend on whoever I speak to as they make their own rules up. If anything my insurance should go down as i think i'm driving safer since my accident. I stick to limits everywhere, I make sure i'm aware of my surroundings but constantly checking my miorrors, looking round, watching pedestrians. I drive like im doing my test!.

Your eye problem cannot affect the premiums charged, as this would be in breach of the disability discrimination act, however some insurance companies will not offer a premium, at least not on the standard electronic quote systems.

When a renewal premium increases it is mainly due to the underwriters having higher payouts for your risk group which were taken out 2 yrs before, if you use a broker or intermediary they will offer you this renewal even though they may have companies willing to do it cheaper.

Also underwriters do have some discounts they can apply manually, but need to be prompted to do this.

Best advice is to always call around,

Due to inflation & greedy shareholders, prices for 1 thing this year will be more expensive next year.
The bonus with insurance is there's always another company willing to offer you cheaper! so just change companies every year.

I recommend confused.com

Not quite sure if that's true, that they can't raise your premiums for having a disability because it's discrimination. I pay higher premiums because I'm young and male, that's 2 possible forms of discrimination, it's called risk assessment rather than discrimination. With only 1 good eye you're 3D and preriferal vision is substantially impaired and along with that goes speed perception of yourself and other vehicles. Problem is if you're involved in an accident and it comes out it's unlikely to go well in your favour.

They do raise premiums for having DVLA notifiable medical conditions.

Yup, but they'll really screw you senseless if you tried to claim and hadn't told them about something they should have know about.

They do have their own rules, details of all the DVLA medical stuff is here. It won't depend on who you speak to; you fill in the DVLA forms and send them off. Those then get passed to DVLA doctors who contact your GP and make their decision then.

As you say your consultant has said driving isn't a problem, why not inform the DVLA anyway? That way you have informed them so couldn't get screwed over at a later date for not telling them.
