I was after a 150/80 -15 tyre. Theres not much to choose from in that size, I wanted more grip but they generally only offer high mileage tyres.

Whats the risk of going to 150/90-15, a step up in profile? Theres a bit more choice in that size.

What bike was this on?

Going up or down profile by 10 usually doesn't make too much of a difference.

Its for a ZL600. Even with a different profile theres not a massive choice but I know a few using Avon Venom tyres who suggest they are better than the Bridgestone Exedra and Metzeler Marathon. Its was just that the tyre isn't available in the recommended profile.

If it's a 150 originally, you can probably stick a 160 on there ok, providing there's space. I've had this on plenty of bikes and it shouldn't cause a problem providing you don't go over 10mm either side of the original tyre.

You won't notice any difference going up 10 on the side wall so lone as
it does not rub the mudguard.

Its a shaftie, there's barely enough room to get your little finger between the tyre and swingarm. That being said, its a bit hit and miss, a 150 Bridgestone is definately wider than the same size dunlop.

If its that tight you could go down to a 140-90.

Still, not a lot of things use 15 inch rims. I've only seen one on the back of a virago 535, my friend had one of those and nearly always used bridgestone exedras.

Yeah, its an import, stupid size wheel. I've got an Exedra on there at the moment. Only problem has been wet weather grip. This tyre has done between 9 and 12k, about 1k of which has been sideways Rolling Eyes

I'd be happy to sacrifice half that mileage for grip but there doesn't seem much hope.

Guys in the USA have suggested the IRC wild flare (no I hadn't heard of them either), softer compound than most cruiser tyres, but I'm struggling to find a dealer in the UK

Hey all,

Right bit of a weird one with my FZR.

Basically i was out on the private runway, and i took her upto 100.

once you reach 100 ++ It starts wobbeling / shakeing... not tank slapper type, just kinda of swaying, And it gets worse and worse untill it nearly does tank slap..

What could cause this!?

Next time you take the bike on the airstrip, remember this story - In the early eighties I stuck an over-size rear tyre on the K2 honda I had at the time to get it through the MOT. Shortly afterwards, I moved to France and sold the bike on to a friend. "For fu**s sake" I said, "make sure you get that tyre swapped over, it's a deathtrap". A few weeks later I had a phone call to say that two of my friends, (one, very close), had been killed while out on the bike. They'de lost it on a bend late one night after a lock-in at a village pub and Dave, the rider had head-butted a fence post at speed. They were both aged about 23. MISMATCHED TYRES KILL Idea

Wonder if the lock-in had anything to do with it?

www.moto-tyres.com are about your best bet for tyres. You can get a metz ME880 marathon for about 80 quid in standard size, or a hell of a lot of different tyres in 140/90-15.

The 150/80 15 is the standard size. Anyway went for a ME880, £82 fitted. That was cheaper than I could get one loose.
