does it have to be used for actually fixing the car?

Friend sustained cosmetic damage to her 2-year old car recently and the bodyshop have estimated repair at £2500 as several whole panels will need to be replaced - she is thinking of just leaving it the way it is as she's not planning to sell the car anytime soon and using the money for something else.

edit: The accident was not her fault, by the way.

I got £1000 to fix my bike and put it towards a new car...so basically as long as they pay her the cheque and not directly to the bodyshop she can do what she likes (y)
