planning to take the xr 250 to the NEC and back for this years bike show.I'll be taking my girlfriend with me pillion. Birmingham is roughly 40 miles from where I live. Should I expect the XR to manage it?

and for future reference, what enduro style bikes could I get that would better suit long distances.would something like a dr 650 or xt600 be alright? failing that I'll have to find an sv 650.

any suggestions appreciated Thumbs Up

The XR should be fine - I'm sure plenty of people have managed 40 miles off road on them Smile.
It's 45 miles to boxhill and that was easy on my 404; has more power, but probably a wose seat than your XR.
If you find a twisty route, it'll probably be a bit better even if it takes twice as long.

The DR650 or XT600 should be better for longer distances.

As you get heavier and more desert-rally/adventure than enduro they tend to get better for distance.

If you want to do off road, you're going to have to compromise.

As I keep going on about CCMs, the 644 is worth a look - has the DR650 engine in a lighter and better chassis.
The KTM LC4 based bikes are also a reasonable compromise between performance and reliability.

Cool, thanks for that. I might read up on how the 600 enduros take the restriction.although I'm guessing that theyll take it fairly well, being singles.

I wouldnt use a 600 offroad. I find a 250 is plenty, but I do like the enduro bikes generally, even on the road.

I've had a quick look at the 644 and it looks awesome. I;ve only seen one CCM in person and it was the supermoto. I'll have a look around but I struggle to find dealers who stock a decent range of enduro bikes.

I used to ride my DR600 off road and it wasn't too bad. You definitely could be a bit lazier than on an XR250, so it was a less involving ride.

Saying that, I really enjoyed off roading on my husaberg 501e that has a fair bit more power, but also less weight and better suspension. Did break my arm when I got a bit over confident while tired, so maybe best to stick to lower power bikes Smile.

If you're restricted, something like the CCM I've just got would be good if it had a softer seat - I believe the seat's from a MX bike where long distance comfort isn't really an issue Smile. See the long review I did if you haven't already (somewhere lower down in this section).

yeah I had a quick glance over your review but I havent had time to read the whole thing as of yet. well i like the older enduro bikes for the more padded seat.i could go down the sort of big traily route of things like the V strom and such like but they tend to be very pricey.

I dont do any serious offroading anyway.just a bit of messing around on some hills and mounds etc so a 250 is alright. I'll see what I come across

I love the aprilia pegaso 650. something like that would be ideal. anything else like this that might be ok with restriction? I wouldnt use it for offroad obviously, i can keep the xr but I love the style of the pegaso
