If I do it I will of course be doing it legally.

Is it worth it? What kind of power increase will I see (in top speed terms) and will it impact the life of the engine at all?

Cheers.

Shocked don't forget the powerband, you can buy them in big tubs now so you can try all different colours and see which one gives you the best acceleration.

worth it? ye being a 30 is dangerous in imo.
engine life? well it wont help it, but it shouldnt go bang, maybe after a year or 2 it might.

Laughing

Seriously though, is it pointless?

It's just that ideally I'd like it slightly faster so I can do greater distances on it. It will be my only form of transport - I've recently rid myself of my van - so I need to squeeze as much performance out of it as possible until I can afford to buy a bigger bike.

Just buy a race exhaust, MK, Malossi something like that will totally transform the power. Worth it? 100%.

seriously its not going to do much, you'll keep up with traffic a lot better with it, but dont expect any change in performance, it just means you can get 45 out of it or so.
why not get a 125?

Half-lyfe: I would love a geared bike. However, I have no money whatsoever at the moment and as I was given this scooter I want to make use of it for a while - it will cost me less to run this than getting the bus to work every day. That will enable me to save up for a better bike and maybe my full license.

In the meantime, I need to ride 200 miles on the moped next month, hence why I need it to be slightly faster.

To be fair, 45mph from 30mph is quite a lot (50% increase). I wish I could get a 50% speed increase from an exhaust change!

Buy a cheap sports exhaust, increased mt speed by 10mph. Just enough to keep up with the traffic. Any faster and you are asking for trouble. Thumbs Up

derestriction will make a difference, thats the whole point of it Laughing

and derstricting a 50cc scooter, will not make it unreliable, as they are only restricted to 30mph for 16 year olds Wink

Thumbs Up

Why would be in trouble if he went faster? Not all people who ride scooters are 16 year olds.

Thats a fair point. I know the city limits are only 30mph but cars tend to travel at much higher speeds than that resulting in danger for moped riders being overtaken, I hated it. Sorry for the stereotype Thumbs Up

Definatly worth derestricting it, that should see the moped doing 45-50mph which is much better for keeping up with the traffic and it shouldn't have much impact on the engines life.
Also a sports exhaust is a worthy investment that will give you another 10mph plus they sound better.
And there you are, sorted for most roads short of motorways and other fast things Very Happy
