Well, Ram and McGee know i'm planning on rebuilding an R6 over winter ready for our summer trip to Europe.

However priorities are all set out and i'm quite keen on buying the bike first so i can get cracking with it before i set about doing my license.

However can i actually buy a bike without a license? Is there a way to get the papers etc in my name when i buy it or do i have to have a license?

Cheers for any advice/suggestions guys.

Chris

You don't need to have a licence to own a bike. Just fill in the V5 with your details and that makes you the registered keeper.

I bought my first moped, my first 125 and my first 350 before I had a licence to ride them.

Ta very much Stink.

Will it be a hassle getting it on the road after i've finished rebuilding it even though it's registered in my name?

Whiffs of Jamie, not old enough to ride yet can be the registered keeper.

To be fair it seems a little different.

If you are buying a bike make sure it's sorn'd if your not riding it.

Difference is i AM old enough to ride. The bike will be in many different pieces whilst i'm doing my license so even if i DID want to ride without a license, without insurance and risk u!3!3er f**kage i couldn't physically do it.

Come on dude, i thought you knew me better than that...

Chances are gsxrmick i'll be buying a bike in bits so how do i go about getting it sorn'd if it's not already?

And what exactly is it sorn'd anyway?!

<Hangs head in shame>

Was making comment to Stinkwells story of buying and owning a bike before being able to ride it.

You can go to www.direct.gov.uk and SORN your vehicle from there Clicky

SORN means that the government are aware that your vehicle is off the road and therefore needs no tax, other wise £80 fine I think?

Don't see why it should be a problem. I was out on my 125 the day I turned 17. It's called planning ahead. Bikes came up at the right price, I had the money so I bought them.

No good waiting 'till you're allowed to ride them then looking only to find there isn't one you can afford.

That's the same sorta train of thought i'm on right there.

And you get fined for having a vehicle OFF the road? What knobs. They always want an excuse to get your money. Laughing
